Forums - Gaming - There needs to be a western created Final Fantasy (main series)

OP: So you want SE to start a Final Fantasy series that isn't Final Fantasy? What possible reason is there that this would even sell and how are Japanese developers supposed to master WRPG as a genre?
Western games are equally full of stereotypes, space marines, the inability to try to make anything "scary" without resorting to stealing and heavily overusing (ironically) eastern horror elements (F.E.A.R).
Not to mention the fact that we can't seem to come up with better antagonists than Russians or aliens, its always one of them who is to blame (sometimes Koreans or folks from the Middle East though, which is equally original).

I'd actually rather see the series go back to more a traditional style seen during previous console generations (snes, ps1) rather then change even more then it has over the past few years. I do agree that some of the japanese influence (specifically with the character design) has gotten out of hand though.

Everytime FF (after FF7) went back to "tradition" (that is a medieval setting) it underperformed

FF9, FF12 both underperformed in comparison to FF7, FF8 & FF10

Don't expect a FF that goes back to medieval setting for a long time, unless the FF tactics team is making FF15 like they made FF12

EDIT: oh & please keep the FF Tactics team away from a main final fantasy S-E.....let them make FF tactics HD or something

hey whats wrong with the tactics team?

Cause 100 hours of text reading, i attack, then you attack gameplay really is fun,oh dont forget everyone looks like girls! Oh and cliche cheesy storylines.

:)

^ at least there giving me a good story b/c u no its only like a main component in every RPG ever made. WRPG's(apart from Bioware) seem to have trouble understanding this which makes them completely untrustworthy IMO. and 100 Hours of text reading?? isnt that something more common in WRPG's since all ur doing is talking to NPC's half the time?? Oh and as for turn based ummm all FF games apart from XII are turn based and they have still sold millions so that says a lot lol.

and thats the way we want it. :P

but youre right, clicking from texture to texture, running from A to B, and 50 years later back to A, to hear you have to go to C who tells you that you have to travel back to A  is the best way to go for RPGs..

.. oh wait

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

What are you talking about? We already have western Final Fantasy's....it's Anything that Bioware makes. Seriously though, That would be a stupid move on their part, to do that to their main franchise again. FFXII/FFXI/FFXIV is as western as they'll get and thats it. Trying to force devs to develop a game outside of their culture is pretty risky and Square has proven they can't do it

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Everything sounds biased when you're biased and you try to portray something really simply. Maybe one day you'll stop living under a rock and try new things.

@Montana

The same could be said for him, listen i dont have anything against RPGs like that, but saying there superior to WRPG is just laughable IMO.

Now there are some good ass JRPG, Such as Valk Chrncls,That is how they should be made IMO.

Here is the way i look at it, JRPG are for Hardcore fans, while WRPG are for "Casual" fans, you know people who are not really dedicated to the game, dont know the backstorys, both are good in there own way.

I think both are amazing, I just don't like one genre being misrepresented when it produces some great games. And I think you can have casual and hardcore fans of both genres. A lot of casual fans got into JRPGs when Final Fantasy 7 was released, and there are a lot of people who play games like World of Warcraft who would be mighty mad if you ever called them casual.

absolutely, I  was just showing the other side to his arguement.

"And I think you can have casual and hardcore fans of both genres"

You can but it takes very talented devs to do it correctly, and FF has done it, sales prove it.
