26K 1st day puts it right about in like with Chocobo Dungeon i think. Which sold something like 100K lifetime.

I'd guess they expected more. A Final Fantasy spinoff should do like 500K at least.

I mean Dirge of the Cerberus i think sold almost a million.

Dirge of Cerberus was on a console that actually did great at moving Final Fantasy games.

The PS2 also did a much better job at moving 3rd party software as well. Still sometimes does.

What you are saying is utterly stupid. Most of the 3rd party titles on the Wii are niche and would not sell much better on another console. If Final Fantasy Crystla Chronicles: The Crystal Bearer would have been an RPG it would have light up the charts. Japan has never been big on action adverture games. Secondly, I would state that 3rd parties, in Japan, need to develop for the Wii like they do the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but even their support is not good. Instead 3rd parties need to support the Wii like they do the PSP and the DS. Then 3rd party games will sell.

Let's not forget that the PS2 had a full year release in Japan before the Xbox and the Gamecube.

Don't start off by saying someones thoughts are stupid and follow with ignorant comments yourself. You have no idea how these so called "niche" titles would do on HD consoles. If they're fun I think HD consumers are more prone to buying them. Notice how the best selling HD games are genuinely great?

Japanese developers tend to put their games on HD consoles because they sell better there and MS throws money at them. Developing a high budget games soley for the Wii is risky.

The full year thing is a joke. The PS2 sales are simply amazing and it had the best 3rd party support.

3D Dot Game Heroes just came out, and showed us how a high quality niche game sells on PS3.  Not any better than Wii it turns out.

The only real high budget Japanese 3rd party game we've seen on Wii was Monster Hunter 3 and it's outsold everything on the HD consoles so far.

Here's why I think the game did not sell well

No Hype: the game had been in development for years leading many to lose interest. And I saw little in the way in press releases before the game released.

It is more of an adventure game than an RPG: RPG have traditionally performed better i Japan than adventure games.

The last entry for the crystal series on the Wii was apauling and may have turned people off.

Wow, that's bomb. Well that's still no indication of how other niche games would do on HD consoles. Clearly there is little demand for that one.

Monster Hunter is mega popular franchise in Japan. It no secret from looking at the PSP sales. But Monster Hunter doing well doesn't mean other big budget games will do well. For example, the terrible first week of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

Oh boy, I guess they should have made a PS2 version as well.

I expect strong sales after price drops.

a PS2 version would be a major downgrade compared to the Wii version, if anything, it should be a PSP version on a really tiny screen so it doesn't look shitty although I'd shit on the camera control with a PSP version.

If you say so, it doesn't look out of the realm of the PS2 capabilities.

And who cares if it doesn't look as good? Is that stopping Wii fans from buying MW:Reflex?

Yeah like hell if I'm buying reflex, it's hard to go back to a Civic once you've a S2000. Not to mention that PS2 can't do Wii graphics which is common sense by now.

you may not, but i think reflex is gonna sell pretty well.  Look at COD3 and COD:WaW sales.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Final Fantasy just doesnt seem right on Wii...

PS2 also had much better 3rd party support.  Publishers are reaping what they sow, they should've been building their own fanbases on the marketleader years ago (like they did for PS2), not now.  They've made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

Dirge of Cerebrus sold around 500k btw.  Which is less than SE's top selling Wii game (DQ Swords).

Well according to this site, Dirge of Cerberus sold 0.96 million and Others is not included.

The only thing I can confirm though, its an awful game and anyone who purchased it deserves our sympathy.

500k Japan.  This thread's on Japanese sales.  FFCC sold 350k Japan.

DQ Swords actually outsold all the PS2 DQ spinoffs though (Swords = 600k, Torneko 3 = 500k, FF&DQ Itadaki Street = 350k, Shonen Yangus = 300k).  I wonder if DQX outsells DQVIII as well.

Kinda a confusing thing.  I always thought there was plenty of overlap when it came to DQ and FF fans in japan.  Who knows.  Maybe it just got blocked out being too damn close to the actual regular FF that it got no attention.
