Oh boy, I guess they should have made a PS2 version as well.
I expect strong sales after price drops.

Not to mention Capcom tends to have way high expectations. Look at their Dark Void or LP2 expectations. They even shipped 600k+ copies of Bionic Commando when it only broke 300k.' lol, March is Q4 financial year 2008. They were still praising sales for Q2 of 2009. That's 3 quarters. Like I said, their Q3 2009 report should be worth a laugh. |
You can probably expect plenty of praise for MH3 in it's 3rd quarter as well. It'll be quiet this coming quarter though, maybe another shout-out if subscriptions continue to beat expectations like last quarter.
In Japan it's already done it's job really though. Capcom won't have another console game that comes close to the same sales until the inevitable Monster Hunter 3G on Wii later next year.
MH3 may be a good game, but I think it failed to do what it was supposed to... Not in the way hanafuda see's it though.
The game was top heavy in other words, people bought it because of hype or marketing, they expected something and didn't get what they expected.
Should 3G be released on Wii, I see a small growth in sales or a slight decline, I hope it's not big.
The sequel would fail though and if it does it will indicate that this game failed.
However this game will be huge. ^_^ (I like MH games)
That and not many people even bought Wii's for the game, Iwata thought the game would move consoles, thats the reason for the bundles but it didn't. The game just wasn't a success.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.

a PS2 version would be a major downgrade compared to the Wii version, if anything, it should be a PSP version on a really tiny screen so it doesn't look shitty although I'd shit on the camera control with a PSP version.

compare that to the PS2 versions and you'd have a direct comparison, I'm buying the NA release and expect to see some people to play with me =P online will most likely be free and would be pro if they add in wiispeak functionality.

camera still sucks though =P

I don't think Wii's so much the issue, Crystal Bearers would've bombed no matter where it went console wise (360, PS3, PS2). It's a 12 hour action game, and a spinoff of a spinoff subseries.
I also think there may be some brand fatigue, which could be exacerbated in these titles coming so close to FFXIII. FF Gaiden only sold 120k 1st week and that's a full fledged RPG, on the most popular system ever in Japan. Dissidia UT also tanked, and it's previous version sold almost a million.
But they have coming up
FFXIII
FFVXIII
FFXIV
DQX
KH3?
SE will be fine
26K 1st day puts it right about in like with Chocobo Dungeon i think. Which sold something like 100K lifetime.
I'd guess they expected more. A Final Fantasy spinoff should do like 500K at least.
I mean Dirge of the Cerberus i think sold almost a million.

If you say so, it doesn't look out of the realm of the PS2 capabilities.
And who cares if it doesn't look as good? Is that stopping Wii fans from buying MW:Reflex?
