Err... fine. though i still stand against it, even if he is apart of final fantasy history, i was going to say maybe its an "Old-Gamer" thing since even Eu likes it, but xxain is only in his early 20's so that cant be it... i dunno.

All im saying is his art-style lacks pretty boys ala my avatar, so you can see why im against it.

well lets start by saying that everybody in here arguing with are Veten FF fans who been playing since SNES days days where Amano was the FF art guy..new age FF fans started with FF7 and Nomura..so ur actually rite its a old school vs New school look thing...personally i love Amano, not just because Amano >>> Nomura, but because other than being a gamer im a inspiring artis and his FF and personal work and mindblowing good.. Nomura good but hes not Classy like Amano..just Overly done Emo lookin animeish characters

Okay yes, that dude with that hat does pass for a pretty boy but cecil and that other guy with to much eyeliner do not, he looks goth and cecil looks wrong.

So you're saying you haven't seen nearly enough of Amano's art to pass judgment on it one way or another.

I've seen quite abit, just wasn't aware of his name.

Looks like Kefka punched him in the face...TWICE!

Kefka, at least he ruled the world, killed countless people and destroyed entire cities.

yeah thats most likely it, i was only like 3 to 5 when all these other final fantasies was about, i only really got into it all when VII came out, one of the many. so the old style VS the New style seems to fit well. of course i side with the new style but again to each his own. it just seems more revelent for a game series called "FINAL FANTASY" not "Final History..." just point that out there...

And about that sephiroth picture, really now...

Some characters can get away with it, some dont.

that pic is far from villaness though, if it wasnt for the CGI CS's that i played in the PS1 version a little pixel clown is not really that... you know...

No he's plenty intimidating

I could do the same with the One Winged Angel, but i wasn't talking about "Final Forms" i was talking about regular work more exact the pic twes posted...

i mean hes almost a colored dot. if it wasn't for the epic very Final Fantasy VII like storyline i would have stop'd playing it because of the art-style AND the graphics, so all the pretty boys came into final fantasy after VII huh? everyone in VI (there art-work) looked fugly imo.

I tried my hardest not to explode about this comment and your comments a little below about Amano but fuck it, I can't help it.  I had a nice post just about written up but then I accidently closed the window. XD

How the fuck can you say FFVI's pixels don't convey emotion?  I'll give you three golden examples of stuff all done with sprites that is more emotive than most things released today, including any recent FF and FFVII:

  • The Opera House -- one of those themes will stick with everyone that has ever played the game and just one of the most beautiful moments in gaming ever.  I still get goosebumps just thinking about the theme and the midi version of the aria still shows up on every one of my play lists.
  • The Phantom Train -- If the opera house showed that games can be beautiful, the phantom train showed that games can be just heart wrenching sad.  The part where Cyan's family departs is one of the saddest moments in gaming and anyone who doesn't tear up a little does not have a soul.
  • The Solitary Island -- this scene is just overflowing with emotion.  The music, the staging, every fucking piece is brilliant.  This is one of if not the best moments in gaming.

I just can't understand how you think 16-bit sprites can't show emotion when you have those three examples.  Those three examples alone do so much more with some 200 pixels than any game today does with their 1080p's.

And you dare insult Amano's work!?  And to prove it you only post a picture of Gau!?  This is even more upsetting than your above comment about saying the game is fugly!

Just a few examples of Amano's beautiful work:

And my favorite picture of his:

The stuff he does with colors and lines and composition is just amazing.

I generally like to draw out his drawing of the Behemoth attacking the Light Warriors but those work too.

1) looks okay. no complaints here.

2) looks poorly done.

3) looks HORRID, what the fuck is wrong with Terra in that picutre!? i just show my girl-like friend and even she says she looks DRUGGED!!! Wtf!?

4) looks old and classic, thats okay for people who like it but not for me.

5) i have to admit looks outright amazing, looks like something out of a fantasy book. really nice, you win number 5.

6) looks abstract.

7) is odd.

8) is weird.

9) is Beautiful.

10) is pretty.

11) looks like something out of disney... not bad or good...

12) is spooky. but in a good way.

Thanks for the pics, now i have a more clarity of judgement about this amano's artwork, i've seen a bunch but not those.

And im sorry theres no way a pixel and inspire true emotion, how can it show emotion if you can barely see there damn face? i know Euphiria will be pissed when he reads this, but i just dont understand you old-school gamers, im sorry... call me a stupid kid of a gamer if ya want, but i dunno.
