Forums - Gaming - Do you miss the days when a videogame system was just...a videogame system?

Nowadays, videogame systems do all kinds of things...play movies, surf the net, weather channels, rent movies, etc...now even Facebook, Twitter are coming...they´re becoming true multimedia machines...but also they´re becoming too much like the PC..patches, firmwares, installations, etc...

Anyway, personally I miss the days when a gaming system was just a gaming system...just put the game and start playing immediately...no patches, no installations, etc...

Anyway, do you miss those days?..or not at all?

I don't care. I'm having fun regardless.

Kind of, but also not really. More features doesn't hurt, it's not like developers are focusing a lot on integrating facebook and stuff like that instead of making games.

I really like all the various things that systems can do, but I wouldn't miss them because I have the system to play games

I dont care if a Device can more then just its main purpose. Because those extra features dont destroy the gaming experience. Infact I like having just one Device under my TV. Everyone can use the features if he wants and if not then not and it makes the same thing as if there were no extra features.

Cellphones 15 years ago had no abilitys and today they have Internet/Games/Camera/GPS/Mp3/Video/Wifi/Bluetooth and more is this a mistake ? Not for me.

Every electronic thing will eventually become essentially a computer. As long as they still keep the core purpose of the product, and the new features don't interfere with that, than I have no problem with that.

well, considering the ability to surf the internet with my video game system of choice has saved me several times I'd say: NO

Nah, multimedia can always be a solution for people who don't have access to a PC.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

As long as developers continue to focus on making games then I dont care.

i personally think publishers and developers see that other forms of entertainment is taking over and sucking some hours away from the video game side i.e. facebook and twitter. we saw that DVDs was beginning to pick up and sony and microsoft incorprated those media formats within their consoles. we can still do the "pop a game in play" but now we are getting extra added bonuses to are consoles which are becoming a central hub.
