PS3 is doing the 10 year plan, and wii isn't going HD any time. Why does MS need to sacrifice 2-3 years of milking the 360 tech with a motion controller when the competition is milking its products.

Besides, natal is the motion controller everyone will focus on. Say what you will but Sonys tech is far too close to the Wii which is out of 3 years now. Maybe MS wants to introduce the gamers to the idea of Natal before the blow our minds with next gen motion controller.

Or maybe MS hopes to sell you a useless eyepet knock off and ruin the xbox brand they established

just because a new console comes out doesnt mean that production immediately stops on the previous console.

and wii will never go hd. it doesnt fucking need to. why does everyone talk about this?

Iwata has already confirmed that the next Nintendo home console will output HD. This is not the same thing as releasing an addon that upscales Wii games to HD resolutions.

On topic - they're releasing it then because that's as soon as they can release it and have some games to go with it. Planning probably started the day after GTA4 failed to kill the Wii. Essentially they want to do this to give 1st and 3rd party devs experience with using natal, so that when the 720 has a natal type control system it won't take devs ages to work out how to use it.

New console = sales at a loss. Why would MS wait to bundle something cool with natal when they can sell it with 360 and probably squeeze some hardware profit? When its all said and done, if natal moves 5 million 360s at 50 dollar profit. Thats a 250 million dollar hardware profit.

Instead of 1.5 billion loss that companies like MS and Sony take when releasing a new console and sell it below cost.

you make a good point, they probably will make a bunch of money off of it, and like somebody else mentioned, they could work the bugs out to make the tech in the next console even better.

i dont know.. my whole thing was that it just seems kind of late, but we will see what kind of numbers it can pull for the 360. and stuff.

I knew this before Iwata even said anything. it is common sense. i wasn't talking about nintendo's next console, look at what i wrote. when in there did i say nintendo's next console? i am talking about the wii.

well no-one was talking about a HD upscaler for the Wii, so why did you ask "why does everyone talk about this?"?

I wonder if a Natal Xbox 360 isn't also tweaked hardware as well. If they can make the console 2.5-3* more powerful than the present box with roughly the same cost present per unit cost after a shrink to 45nm they could start a transition to more powerful hardware without losing revenue on the legacy boxes.

They could go for 1024MBit GDDR5 modules at 80GB/s bandwidth, tripple the ALU/Tex count and increasing the core clock of the gpu by 100Mhz to 650mhz and make it DX11+ compliant and increase the ED-Ram size to 14/16MB and integrate it with the GPU for lower latency and finally upgrade the CPU to 4 cores with 4MB L2 cache and PowerXCell 4-8 SPEs (the SPE DMA architecture may not interfere with legacy 360 code) whilst devoting a few of the SPEs directly to running the Natal camera (the camera uses a Spurs engine IIRC which is SPE based) and finally an HD-DVD drive so they can release games discs with 3 layers (two DVD 1 HD-DVD 15GB) and transition slowly to the new console.

Like 2010 Xbox 360 Natal + Xbox 3 release.

2014 end Xbox 360 support

Tease.
