Forums - Microsoft - Why Natal?

I just saw the thing that said Natal is set to release November of 2010.

I don't know, I just really don't see the point. Why not just include this technology in the new console? By that time it will be a full five years since the 360 launched. It seems to make more sense to just include this in the next console since the 360 is pretty much going to be at the end of its life by that point.

I have a hard time buying this thing if the new console is going to come out soon after that. What do you guys think and shit?

Because people don't want to spend another $400 on a console.
MS has pretty much secured second place in America but they need more fire to get back second place world wide, and they figured Natal will be that key to success.

MS will profit as a whole on the 360 by the end of 2010 most likely so they want to keep going till Sony/Nintendo show signs of a new dominating console - which doesn't seem like it will happen too soon anyways.

The economy sucks and people don't have money to blow $400 on another console right now. However if MS could release the 720 at $300 I would agree with you. I want to see Crysis on Ultra High for the 720!

It's just that simple.

Either way (new console or not), I'm buying NATAL day 1.

2010.
Microsoft domination.

Can't wait for E3 2010!!!!
It's gonna be BIG!

The Full Natal unveilment!

well thats why you dont make your console cost a shitload. nintendo launched the wii at 250. it worked pretty well for them. nintendo's new console will probably be 250 to 300. i dont see why ms and sony priced their consoles so ridiculously high.

PS3 is doing the 10 year plan, and wii isn't going HD any time. Why does MS need to sacrifice 2-3 years of milking the 360 tech with a motion controller when the competition is milking its products.

Besides, natal is the motion controller everyone will focus on. Say what you will but Sonys tech is far too close to the Wii which is out of 3 years now. Maybe MS wants to introduce the gamers to the idea of Natal before the blow our minds with next gen motion controller.

Or maybe MS hopes to sell you a useless eyepet knock off and ruin the xbox brand they established

Does it really matter if a new Xbox comes out a year after Natal? I doubt you would get it first thing anyways.

just because a new console comes out doesnt mean that production immediately stops on the previous console.

and wii will never go hd. it doesnt fucking need to. why does everyone talk about this?

New console = sales at a loss. Why would MS wait to bundle something cool with natal when they can sell it with 360 and probably squeeze some hardware profit? When its all said and done, if natal moves 5 million 360s at 50 dollar profit. Thats a 250 million dollar hardware profit.

Instead of 1.5 billion loss that companies like MS and Sony take when releasing a new console and sell it below cost.

I would imagine microsoft will use the natal to get some of the bugs out of its tech. So when they do release the next box it will be spot on (I am not saying that natal will be bugged up either).

The biggest thing here is the fact that Microsoft is wanting to turn a profit. So instead of blowing a lot of cash on a new box they will reap the rewards of keeping the 360 on the market making them money. If they keep the 360 around as long as the PS3 claims to be they should profit very heavily.

I kind of agree.. I don't think it would matter much though. I have a feeling that the Natal will be compatible with the new Xbox and maybe PC. The new Xbox should be backwards compatible with the 360. Gamertags will carry over just like it's always been since the old Xbox. Now, time to go take a shit.
