Forums - Microsoft - Does MS deserve any respect ?

It's kinda hard to take the sony zeolots comment serious when it's the same drivel...is M$ design of things influenced by others...you'd have to be crazy NOT to try and emulate what works from competitors, but is it "inspired"....hardly. I look at Windows 7 running on my PC, and I really don't see how this look anything like my wife's Macbook...visually or otherwise. I'd like to see an OP actually do a compare/contrast, rather than just posting nonsense.

Yes. Not for Win7 though. I respect MS for their ruthlessness and sticking to their guns of lack of creativity, but still managing to keep a strangle hold on the current culture while keeping us years behind. I have to respect that because they are doing a fantastic job. I don't like it. I would rather see them crash and burn and see other companies managing to propel our software ahead. But the fact that they are succeeding deserves respect

So they keep us years behind by constantly updating and improving their products and at least when they update their products and add funtionality and features with service pack 1 and 2 or a dashboard update on xbox 360. They do the update for free.  I wish I could say the same thing for Apple who is even charging for you to update to the newest software version on the iPod Touch and the endless equivalent type updates to OS X (Snow Leopard, Panther, etc)

^^^ What about the weekly 80MB updates to Itunes...I got off that rat race pain in the arse cycle!

most large companies are the same, ms is just the king of using other companies ideas, for the people who want to pull sony in to the mix, sony was the company who brought CDs in to the mix, made the first cd players, beta, technologhy that failed then came the vcr, the first camcarters, portible cd players , walkman, , sony did not copy any other companies on these ideas. when nintendo and sony started working on the video system, years ago, it was not sony who screwed nintendo, it was the other way around. sony is not perfect , no company is, nut you can not even compare ms and sony when it comes to ethics.

So they are a company that prides itself on controlling overpriced proprietary technology rather then industry standards.

This is just a sample of some of the unethical things Sony had been caught doing in the past several years.

Music Division - Installing Root Kits on consumers PC's to prevent CD copying without the users knowledge.

Movie Division - Making up completely fake reviewers who made comments like "funniest movie of the decade" and then using these fake reviewers in the advertising and even on DVD box.

Game Division - completely lying about the original specs of the PS3 to outdo the upcoming Xbox and Wii (dual HDMI ports, Dual video cards) and then releasing a proven fake CGI video of Killzone 2 and even intentionally said that it was actual gameplay.
