They make all their money on little $5 phone games. The real game industry is another beast.

What made you think there's a 'real' game industry? Do you suppose that Apple gaming isn't 'real'? What makes it 'real'?

If they'll able to accumulate few billions in revenue per year that's pretty much real by my standards.

Technically, Apple doesn't even make these games or apps.  The vast majority or independent made apps and games.  If they went to a console, there would be no where near as many games because of the much larger cost of entry and cost of development.

Hmm, agreed. But what this has to do with my post?

Lol, mostly to do with the guy you quoted.  And I was just trying to give reasons why Apple entering the gaming business would be a rather difficult feat since games would no longer be cheaply developed to be sold for $5 or less.

They'll fail. No one will accept Apple in the game industry. Sony and Xbox fans won't buy their trash and Nintendo has the casuals on lockdown.

So far they make more money then EA in terms of gaming. They're not competing for the hardcore gamer market they're competing for the casual gamer who plays stuff like Wii Fit.

It's a good start.

I think they'll still have $5 games but they want to expand the types of games they have to include bigger name titles that people recognize as actual games.

On a side note I think ID has quake for Iphone either already out or coming soon.

Well, yeah. Utilizing the same business model of under $10 games and attract much attention from traditional gaming public at the same time might be difficult, but we don't know how big this supercheap gaming segment might be, it may worth a couple of billions per year. iPhone\iTouch platfroms just recently after several price-cuts became accessible lo-end gaming platforms. They may eventually raise the price point though and try to capture mainstream portable gaming i.e. Nintendo territory, translating themselves from lo-end niche they have now to mainstream.

Good. I would like to see another American or European company join the gaming console party. Japanese monopolizing the gaming industry for way too long.

He is right.. the real game industry is about making big budget games and losing milions of dollars every year.. >_>

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Will apple start download only gaming? That could be big in coming years. maybe?

Sony and MS have far more to fear from an Apple entry into the market than Nintendo does, not many kids are going to get iPhones and Nintendo has its in house dev teams. The Iphone is a bigger threat to the PSP than the DS.
