Right now, BR does have the better lineup (overall) but I am still glad I got the HD-DVD player. There was no way in the world I was passing up 9 free HD-DVDs for $190. Not going to happen ...

In a way, it's like you payed for the movies, and got the player free. :P

Exactly! Even if HD DVD tanks, I am still able to watch movies in HD. Nuff said.

And ... since the U.S. is really the only country with viewing restrictions, you can get movies from around the world that were BR-only or HD-only in the U.S. on the other format. And with no region codes, give me HD DVD any day of the week.

well, the only way to HD DVD to win is :

- put money on the desk to secure exclusivity like with Paramount
- introduce cheaper HD DVD player (like the new one coming)
- new Xbox60 with HD included in

Note : DVD is still killing the 2 format quite easly.

Time to Work !

We are still 5-10 years away from an HD format "winning" for real, and by then cheap bandwith and storage should make all discs obsolete. (But I still prefer discs in fancy boxes)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I dunno, HD DVD players just hit $198 at Wal-Mart and Circuit City.

We're heading into the holiday season, and I expect a ton of these things to sell.  $200 is an easily affordable gift, and they're likely to get even cheaper come Black Friday.  High definition movies will have a sizeable market in 2008.

HD-DVD has come alot farther than anyone predicted and certainly no one movie was going to make it the winner over night. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I think when Transformers, the best selling HD movie yet, still only attributed 2% of its sales to HD DVD, it became clear that neither is going to win this. Ever.

Yeah really.  It's like it's the 1990's again and two shortstops are fighting in spring training for the spot of Cal Ripkins backup.
