Forums - Nintendo - EA down on Wii, but not out - willing to work with Nintendo to make software sell

to me, EA still had the problem of thinking that wii owners are these other magical type of people that get sacrred by realism and like cartoony stuff and care mostly about multiplayer. at first i thought that EA would be really good this holiday but Nitro, Spore hero and such just seem to be standard games that arnt particularly good and havnt really been marketed well. Sega, ubisoft and Capcom seem to me the best third parties that understand wii development. maybe MMV too, not sure how they are doing tho

A cheap rail shooter is not what i call a serious effort.

Where does it say it was cheap to make? Seriously, where?

It is a rail shooter.  Rail shooters are cheap to make in comparison to 'controllable' games.

But if that isn't enough...the 'new' story was very weak and borrowed heavily from Dead Space to flesh it out.  The environments from part of the first level and after the 2nd or 3rd level are nearly all reused from Dead Space so design cost is out the window, the weapons are nearly all stolen from Dead Space, the enemies are stolen from Dead Space, in fact most of the game was.   Design costs must have been almost non existant for the game.

Then is the fact that many areas are poor and clearly had little work done on them and just tried to hide with shadows, plus the bugs so testing probably didn't have a big budget.

Need more?

Try actual facts, something that says "this part of the game costs X dollars to develop", instead of conjecture. Lots of faulty games still have big budgets.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

i will get Extraction when the price goes down.. i mean why would i buy a railshooter for $100 AUD dollars? are EA insane?.. and by the way i still have alot of ps3 and wii games i want that is worth it.. when i buy all these games i will buy it and by then it will be worth the price it probably 50 bucks by then

Harry Potter for me is the ultimate example. It *should* have been a ultra, mega-hit on the Wii.

Instead, it was crap - that was basically worse than last years version.

And what makes it worse? When HP movie got delayed, EA had an extra year to polish and work on the game. Did they? No - they left it - rushed and buggy, and didn't bother working on it more.

I'm perfectly fine with EA milking their big titles only - at least they won't be flooding the market with crap.

Looking at their financial report, this is the distribution of revenue for each of the three consoles in the last quarter:

Xbox 360: $171 million (41% down YoY)
Wii: $142 million (51% up YoY)
PS3: $142 million (18% up YoY)

So they better not be kidding when they say "not out"... I doubt they're spending more (or significantly more) on Wii development than PS3/360 development, and revenue is very similar to the other consoles (and a lot up from last year).

Considering that the Wii is at the exact same profitability as the PS3 I see no reason for them to be complaining. I think titles on the Wii are simply not selling because they lack name recognition. All EA needs to do is bring over some existing IP's and give them a couple good quality titles.... Oh wait EA doesn't have any real good IP's of their own....almost forgot not.....

EA can't expect every little title they make to be a massive success, Didn't Need For Speed perform fairly well? If EA put alittle more effort into making Wii titles we would see massive profits. How about EA uses their last Spielberg compisition on something more story driven then Boom Blox, lets face it Spielberg is amazing at story telling why waste his talents on puzzle games?

I very often disagree with KylieDog, but I think he has a point there... is there any reason at all to believe that this game had a big budget? Give me just one reason.

What are all these bad EA games that people don't want to buy?

Frankly speaking, I will start buying their games when they give us multiplatform games which matter. Why the Wii hasn't gotten any of the Fight Night games is beyond me. I remember playing Knockout Kings on my GC some years back and it was a hit in my house. A real boxing sim is always welcome. Thats the kind of effort we want. Not spin offs of their franchises and putting some Wii label on it

Forget multiplatform, how about exclusive games that matter? Multiplatform for Wii just doesn't work when it's clearly superior on HD consoles.

Thanks for the link.

And LOL at that list... some of those games sound terrible. It's a good thing they're dropping 1/3 of their titles...
