Forums - Sony - Sony Wand delayed ? (rumor)

well, it is only a rumor but gamekult.com WOULD NEVER have posted it if it was not serious ...

"Wand" PS3: date, name and price?

Still mysterious, the famous "baguette" stabilized the PlayStation 3 is currently a well kept secret by its manufacturer, the Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment. Yet, like the noise corridor which had gone up a few hours before the announcement Natal at the E3 2009, several factors seem to break the silence around this future device.

According to our information, the motion controller for the PlayStation 3 could see its release pushed back to late summer, perhaps the school year 2010 - much later than the first quarter of 2010 as originally planned. If the tarif positions have not yet been established, Sony is considering launching four bundles separate - some involving the device to a console, others to a game, another, finally to the Eye Toy. The price of this package is missing, but it should not exceed 100 dollars for a game with the accessory. As the name would give Sony its new toy, the manufacturer now seems to move after "Sphere", on "The Bow". If the reliability of the origin of this information is acquired, we still await the maker of the PlayStation decides to communicate to endorse each of these elements - many of whom are obviously not yet agreed with Sony.

==> hum ... It would have to be really good if they want to steal the show to Natal

Wouldn't surprise me, but it also doesn't affect me in the least.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

honestly, there is like zero chance that this sony controller is going to be a success. sony's best tactic might be to just release it weeks before natal and hope that what is certain to be bad press for sony's controller rubs off on natal.

Capcom will not be happy as they are releasing RE5 AE in March.

I think the only thing that is certain is that natal will fail horribly. Stealing tech demos from sony from 2004 isnt exactly a wise thing to do.

Didn't someone from Sony say they're still experimenting with different kinds of hardware?

It doesn't seem the design is finalized, much less the software and the manufacturing...

I could easily see both Sony's Wand and Microsoft's Natal being delayed several times ... There are (essentially) three things that have to be worked out before these products can be released:

  1. The hardware has to be completed, be a mature product and be released at an affordable price.
  2. Sony/Microsoft have to have first party "Core" games that really take advantage of these systems and show off how they're superior to what already exists. These systems have to have far more effort put into them than the eyetoy did or else they will be no more important.
  3. Sony and Microsoft need third party developers to heavily support these input devices in many of their upcomming games.

Price is less of an issue with Sony, but if you don't have a big internal game or strong third party support it would be a bad idea to release these devices because it will only be a big, high-profile, failure.

@HappySqurriel,

about the point "2"

the big quesrtion for us is that we dont know at all what Sony or Ms (or even ninty) are holding back.
i mean : do they have games ? how many ? what type ? are they finalized ? at whitch % ?

hopefully its for a sleeker look cause at tgs it was ugly but i can see this taking off as the specs are actualy impressive

Wouldn't it be ironic if they rushed it to release to beat natal and it was full of hardware faults.

Also wasn't there a video and paper showing MS demoing motion tracking using a camera in the late 90's alanshearer?
