Like i said my ps3 just broke when i turn it on it goes right to a red screen saying you have a major prblem call for help. I called up and i need to send my ps3 out. My question is i dont want to lose all my data can i take out my hard drive and keep it with me? Or can i take out my hard drive put it into my brothers ps3 and copy my data? Thanks!
I'm pretty sure that once you put the hard drive in a new PS3, it will require a format. The time to do a backup is before your PS3 dies. Sorry. 
inever heard of this one. but u may loose everything u didn't have in back up
u will any not saved games, though.
and the ps3 will format the HDD if u put it on another ps3.
encryption it's motherboard based, though if they repair it. u will be able to access the data.

If you send it off to be fixed will they wipe your HDD?
Odds are you lost all your saves. If they just send you another machine to replace yours, you lose your data. If they repair your system, you will be able to use the same hard drive. It doesnt look good but keep the faith!
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Isn't there a way to hook it up to your computer and back up the hard drive.

Filesystems and everything. You should know, a Linux drive can't be read from Windows.
Makes me wanna go backup my PS3 now.

Yes, but I'm sure there is a freeware program out there that can do what you need.

if you are hacky enough, any escryption system can be hacked. i am sure there are ways, but very deep in the internet.
a linux drive cannot read from linux but linux see everything.
