Forums - Nintendo - Why is a high-def Wii needed?

Mr Khan said:

The only people who "need" an HD Wii are publishers who wish they could find a way to broaden their multiplatform publishing strategy without having to go to extra effort (e.g. Square Enix and their claim that the next-gen Wii is 2 years off. Probably actually true, but the only reason to make that claim is to placate investors who might be mad that there's a 55 million install base that SE has been mostly neglecting), or bitchy journalists/gamers who want to see Nintendo admit their mistakes and finally catch up to the rest of the industry.

Actually the only people who 'need' a Wii HD are the people who feel the Wii is inferior to an 'HD' system or those who thought the Wii was the 'best system ever' but now feel its 'dated' (aka, another version of someone obsessed with graphics).

Heck, I'd love to see Wii push some amazing graphics.  But I don't NEED it.  If I NEEDED good graphics, I'd buy a PS3.

Moore's law is one reason why the next Wii will probably support HD. Its not going to be this year, probably not next year, so theres still time for stuff to em work itself out :p

One thing amazing with the Wii is the power consumption, its just 18watts during play, more or less a florescent light bulb, PS3 360 are so much higher. Comparison to HD consoles see here: http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-356-2.htm

Will it be able to stay near this figure for the next Wii in HD?

so that people like me (hardcore gamers) would be happy

I regret making this my username, I made this name when I was 13 years old
