Forums - Gaming - I can't bring myself to trust Sony anymore

Lolz that's just preposterous. In very few cases has an update screwed up somebodys system. That 360 fanboy propaganda.

This is certainly possible, but isn't the opposite also possible? It could be truth that the update caused problems and it's PS3 fanboy propaganda trying to stop the spread? I don't know either way, but just the existence of the rumor, and Sony's alledged response to it casts a shadow over the whole thing.

It's just human nature, if you hear a lot of bad things about your friend, who you think is a good person, you start to wonder 'do I really know this person? Is any of this true?' even if you don't mean to think about it. Not all people act/react like this, but many do. Especially when you're in this situation, and it turns out the rumors were right -.-

Second of all, RROD was a system wide failure. It was an epic epic failure causing massive massive damages. It was a hardware defect that was left in, when it should have been (and probably was!) caught in testing.
Yes, MS will replace your system if it RRODs. But they will not pay if anything else happens, and neither will Sony.

A last problem with your "not believing in coincidences", is that firmware does tend to target unauthorized usage, like homebrew, changing the OS, or installing special programs that have been disallowed.

Plus, ps3 does in fact play ps1 games. Which makes me think you don't know what you are talking about in the first place.

PS: I also for some reason love einhander.

EDIT: you also mentioned just now that it was bad PR or something.... why don't you wait for a court verdict. <--- This is exactly what I mean when I say you are trolling. You take a case that's up in the air and just decide for yourself (or maybe because someone else told you to?) who the verdict should go to. Being sued is not bad PR. Being sued and losing the court case is bad PR.

Do you even know how much Sony is sued every year? Like 8 bajillion times. And cases are settled maybe .000001% of the time.

And no backwords compatibility anymore? Come on. I still play some PS1 games (For whatever reason I LOVE Einhander).

I don't know, without jumping at my throat, can anyone point out some things that make Sony a credible company when it coms to integrity and taking care of their customer base?

the first thing I said to me reading your post :

1/ wow, 13 post and already a rant thread ... why not.

2/ einhander ? what a great game !!! I like this guy !!!

3/ reading another post : hey, but PS3 can read PS1 game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4/ Am I wasting my time on this thread ? ...

1, Why not indeed =P

2, it really is, I think I'll play it later

3, By backwards compatibility I did mean PS2 games as well (which every article I've read says the Slim doesn't do, so sorry if they are all wrong), not just PS1. A lot of people missed this.

4, Most likely =)

@Welsh, that's fair to say I guess, Microsoft is a bigger company, and they can cover up a mistake like that more easily.

@avarice, think I made it obvious that I don't own s PS3, did you only read part of the post?

Get a PS3 and a PS2 then. Problem Solved!

I didn't mean to just talk about PS1 games, I meant PS2 as well, I should have mentioned that. When I read some Sony rep say 'we have no plans for backwards compatibility at this time' I did think it meant PS1 as well, so in that, yes I didn't know what I was talking about. But that's why I wanted to do this thread on a Sony fan-dominant site, I want to know what's right and what's wrong in what I've heard, read, inferred, and assumed.

2nd part is a good point. I kind of thought of that, but wasn't too sure, and it makes sense. It would be nice if that's the case.

Yeah, I definitely need to go play Einhander later.

What an easy way to double my posts -.- just create a notoriously popular thread and everyone jumps at you. Haha, thanks to those of you who are keeping it cool, and saying things like 'you don't know what your talking about' and not 'you're just an idiot'.

this thread plus your post on uncharted2 below = stealth xbot

How convienient, let's not reveal anything (or very little) about a character, call it a mystery, and then make him capable of anything. I wager, by Uncharted 5, Drake will be able to fly, cross dimensions, and will have clones of himself fighting over control of the universe.

Backstory is NECESSARY in creating a stable story/plot. Otherwise it becomes a make-it-up-as-you-go-along type of story, which becomes hit or miss. I'm not saying you need to reveal EVERYTHING, but there needs to be something to explain his uncanny ability to kill (trained soldiers no less).

It's not a matter of realism, its more a matter of plausible fiction. But hey, if your blind fanboy-ism can suspend your disbelief THAT much, all the power to you.

If you wanted backwards compatible then you shouldve pony up the doe and bought one while the PS3 still had PS2 playability. If you didnt like the price or couldnt afford one then too bad. Dislike people complaining about how they want this and that but wants to pay little. If you still want one then you can find one on eBay.

The OP like this make me believing that viral marketers actually exist.

Lastly, what will you do when these guys lose their case? Will you sincerely apologize to "that friend", whom you believed the rumors about?
Will you say "sorry", for instantly believing them without proof, just because they COULD have been true? Couldn't is also have been true that those allegations weren't true.... ?

Because I can guarantee that Sony is in the right here. And if they have to settle, it was because of a state loophole in the law.
Hell, these guys are suing on behalf of every ps3 owner...did you know that? If they win, I better see some of this money because I never agreed to this.

?? I was just making a note about character development there, I was just rolling off of what other people were saying. I wasn't knocking U2, was just playing Uncharted 1 last night, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. If the same things were being said about a character in some xbox exclusive, I'd probably say similar things.
