A last problem with your "not believing in coincidences", is that firmware does tend to target unauthorized usage, like homebrew, changing the OS, or installing special programs that have been disallowed. I didn't mean to just talk about PS1 games, I meant PS2 as well, I should have mentioned that. When I read some Sony rep say 'we have no plans for backwards compatibility at this time' I did think it meant PS1 as well, so in that, yes I didn't know what I was talking about. But that's why I wanted to do this thread on a Sony fan-dominant site, I want to know what's right and what's wrong in what I've heard, read, inferred, and assumed.
2nd part is a good point. I kind of thought of that, but wasn't too sure, and it makes sense. It would be nice if that's the case.
