Milestones are constructed to provide reference points along the road. How that is hard to understand is hard to understand.

(I just got back home from work that's why I couldn't answer).

Maybe you will have better luck, I tried to explain this to him but I was unsuccessful.

He doesn't seem to grasp the concept of a milestone.
