I don't want to derail the thread so the only reply I'll give yoy is that those numbers are quite pathetic. Compare these most "successful" titles to new IP on other platforms and see for yourself. And what's the most important is that these IPs you listed didn't drive the platform sales (with probably Infamous being exception of a small scale - not sure). So, you say Suny understands gamers require new IP and fresh experience? Well, OK... But Sony obviosuly fails to deliver such "refreshment" to gamers demands, as the sales indicates. And that's not OK, especially in conjunction with exec's quote given. |
Sony is more willing to take a risk on IP than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.
For every Gears that Microsoft creates Sony has at least 7 new IP's.
New IP's struggle against the sequels, but Sony's new games are selling enough to give them a sequel. Look at what Uncharted 2 is doing. 1.2 million in 2 weeks.
The thing that I love about Sony is they could have put everything into just making sequels to Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Sly Cooper, etc, but instead they went with creating a strong line-up of new IP.
