Forums - Sony - GT5 cost is $60 million: Kazunori Yamauchi

Holy shit, that's way less than pretty much everyone thought ($100m was being thrown around). Prologue probably did cover 100% of the costs, then!

Makes you wonder how over-exaggerated KZ2's numbers are lol.

I find it hard to believe GT5 cost only $60 mill. Im thinking $100 mill. These representatives often intentionally lowball the costs when they talk to media.

10 million copies will bring in at least $300 million in revenue.

Um, why?

Because it's been in development for 5 years with a dev team of 2-300 people.

So? Also, GT5 production started in 2004? Wasn't aware

Lastly, read the edited please...

250 team members each is associated with a $100,000 cost = $25 mill per year.

5 years x $25mill =$125 mill

It takes too long to xplain how and why devs give lowballed dev budgets to media and the evidence of the numbers being too small in general, but i've written about it before.

Trying to save face after being horribly wrong? You have no clue how much it cost sony. You are basing your numbers off nothing. Only thing we have to off of is what Kazunori said. 60 million is it.

Basic logic implies that they immediately began working on GT5 after releasing GT4.  However, most people don't realize that they were focused primarily on Tourist Trophy after GT4, had begun working on GT PSP, and were prepping GTHD for the ps3's launch.

Full development probably didn't start until early 2006 at best, after Tourist Trophy released in Japan in February.  Even then they had team members wokring on GT PSP and GTHD.

He doesn't have sources. Imagine if people were so wrong about GT5's figures imagine how wrong they are about KZ2's! I think GT5's been in production longer. Has a big dev studio and has always had a bigger dev studio. And i fully expect Sonys bread and butter gets paid a higher average salary thasn a newly aquired unproven dev team.

Actually as MakingMusic pointed out, development of GT5 didn't start at 2004. The first tech demo of a next gen GT was released in 2005 with the Vision Gran Turismo Trailer in E305.

Afterwards PD focused exclusively on GT5:P, and it was not until they released GT5:P Spec II, in April 2008, that they shifted the focus on developing GT5 full fledged.

I've posted this same things over and over again everytime a GT5 thread arises, so I won't even bother putting up the links, people wanting to check them out, search them at IGN, they're easy to find.

How many million will they need to sell to turn a profit?

60 million + advertising = 2? 3? 4 million copies? more?

it's a first party games so they don't have to pay licencing.

2 milions copies should recoup development costs (about 30$ per copy).

Depending on the marketing they do, add 500k to 1 million more copies.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
