Forums - General - LCD vs. Plasma

Plasma is technically better, but theres something about those new LEDs...that just makes them so much more attractive to me. Maybe it's the 1.2'' deep profile

Yes. The new Samsung LEDs are extremely attractive. I really want one, but Im afraid I will overpay and in a couple of years they've gone down in price radically.

I like plasmas too. LCD feels more like a poor mans TV.

Go for plasma. Plasma has an overall better image, it´s cheaper and for gaming has a much better response time, 0,001 ms against 5 ms.

Burn in problems only happens with static images viewed hours and hours and it can be fixed. The only problem with plasma is more electricity consume.

I´ve got a Panasonic 42 PZ 80e bought a year ago and  it has a great picture, even in SD images.

Top range lcd´s, like Sony KDL 40 Z5500,  are clearly lower than a regular plasma.

I'm suprised no one brought this up, but LCD's look better in brighter environments than Plasma. If you can control the light level than Plasma is great, but if there is a chance you will be in a brightly lit room, LCD will probably be the better choice.

Also, some of the new LED TVs really come close to the Plasma in terms of contrast ratio and how well they do black. Generally Plasma's have a much better black than LCD TVs.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

i believe you can't go wrong if you get LCD for smaller sizes where they don't tend to have black issues, response time, etc. and Plasma for larger sizes where the difference in blacks, etc. becomes more noticeable - depending on how green you feel I believe Plasma TVs are more likely to see us all puttering about in light T-Shirts and shorts so you might want to take that into account, too.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Lol, what? Utter rubbish. Manmade global warming does not exist...so really it's only the electricity bill he needs to be worried about...and even that is not going to be that much differant.

Manmade global warming may or not exist, but pollution certainly does, and in most places electricity isn't from clean sources...

Yes, but modern coal burning plants are MUCH cleaner than the environmentalists would have you believe. Anyway, the issue of electricity really isn't going to be a huge issue to anybody other than an extreme penny pusher.

I'm sorry but I disagree on both counts. Coal plants emit more radiation than nuclear power plants, besides mercury and a host of other harmful stuff. The "clean coal" crap is just about capturing CO2, which is just one of the problems.

Regarding "penny pushing", if you save 30-50 € a year on electricity you can buy another game or two a year.
