@dsister, no wonder you didn't see much difference. You don't have an HDTV!! Kind of easy to see why you didn't see a difference. And if you say you didn't see a difference after watching it in the store or something, then I'm not even going to waste my time.

I have an HDTV. I even have my PS3 plugged into it with an HDMI cable. I just don't have one over 40in

Yeah? I was a student, 16, and had a job as a paperboy. Got a 40'' Samsung back in '06. It's all about saving every penny you can

Edit: And that TV was $1500. You can get 3 of these Sharps for that...what I wouldn't do to trade!

Get yourself to an Optician my good fellow.  And open your ears while you're at it!

Lossless sound is uncompressed and therefore losses nothing in playback.

As for visuals, sure, some cheap crap film isn't going to look that much better on BR, in fact it may look worse, but any film with decent cinematography looks much better (well, on a decent HD TV it does).  And as for films like 2001, Blade Runner, etc. they look sublime, heavenly and lovely (in that order too).

got BladeRunner myself

in a word, it's...godly.

I's nice to see that there's still hope for physical media in this world of digital entertainment, I just hope it'll last.

Downloads don't often come with artbooks.

Blu-ray is awesome! I'm hesitant to buy a standalone Blu-ray player though because they're still $200 and the price will hopefully drop soon.

I'll have one eventually. I'm thinking of buying one for my parents for Christmas.

This is why it was such an essential great move to include BD-Live which helps integrate netflix streaming into BD players. I know "synergy" is the most cliche business model. But if the BDA can quickly move to BD-Live standard on all players and start marketing in conjunction with NEtflix adoption will not only grow but it will help BD become synonymous with home media.

The %'s are moving quite nicely......people always say BD was growing too slowly, but ive been an early adopter and avid follower fo the trends....the ne wUHD crap wont catch on and its not even launching until 2017. People saying BD is growing to slowly and something new (DD) will take over dont always understand that a standard living room will never be large enough to see improvements in picture quality beyond 1080P so BD may be the standard for quite some time.

The adoption curve will be slower than DVD because DVD only required a new player and the convenience and special features ushered it in over VHS.....BD on the other hand will grow slower because convenience and supplements arent new, but the adoption to 1080p will happen and probably last as long as color tv until something new, if ever can come out meaning BD's shelf live will probably be about 4-5 times longer than DVD was.

The ceiling just cant grow farther for home theater entertainment than BD, and this works in the BDA's favor when talking about resolution and audio. Once people move to BD for the PQ and AQ it will be a cash cow for BDA members.

Well if they really want their confidence to skyrocket, they should start pricing Blu-ray movies where Amazon has them. They would see alot more business from me if they did that.

Blade Runner BR for me represents why I'd buy a film vs rent - I really like it but also want to study it and know a lot about it, hence a package with amazing film transfer and sound and the best extras I've seen (particularly the 6 hour or so documentry covering, well, everything to do with the film) keeps me on physical media for titles like Blade Runner.  I do like the idea of the movie store to rent something I don't want to buy, and really I see the immediate future as a mix of easy to use online services to rent stuff coupled with very well put togehter packages on BR for the stuff you want to own, rewatch and find out about.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
