Forums - Gaming - MW2 or NSMB Wii? Which will sell more end of 09 and lifetime?

09 MW2, LTD NSMBW

As for people saying Galaxy 2 will cut into NSMBW sales, they're completely different games. Like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, same franchise, different genres. Both Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS are selling great, and they're actually in the same series.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

Yeah. I wasn't going to say anything for fear of unholy wrath, but I just don't see Modern Warfare 2 having such incredibly high sales in such a short period of time. 13 million in the first couple months and then only 5 million more over the course of its lifetime (which, as shown by Call of Duty 4, can last up to 2 years or more)?

Well for it to be possible, we'd have to figure it to have anywhere from a 5-6 million opening week. That's a big, big week. That's probably big enough to be the biggest opening week individually for each console.

Well that's the funny thing. Even if it did have the biggest launch ever (somewhere around 6 million) which isn't impossible, it would also need to sell over a million every week for the rest of the year (combined). But on the other hand, I expect ioi to come back and bitch slap us later anyways.

It seems unlikely, but funnily enough for the first time, not totally out of the question. That says a lot about this series.

I say MW2 will be the sales king. Just because it is so much better than mw1 (story, graphics, gameplay; yeah allready played it on a friends modded box but i also preordered the hardened edition).

Also it released on 360, PS3 and PC and thats a big advantage.

Video: Samsung 37" LCD, Topfield 7700HSCI (HD-Sat), Denon DVD-2500BT (BluRay), Denon DVD-1940 (DVD)
Audio: Teufel System 5 THX @ Denon AVR 1910
Consoles: Homebrew Xbox 360 (500GB), Xbox 360 Slim (4GB) + Kinect, Homebrew Nintendo Wii, Homebrew Playstation 3 Slim (250GB)

A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him - BELIEVE

You are basing this estimation on the American preorders but I think that, maybe, you are overestimating the selling power of MW2 in Europe.

I'd rather say that we should have a 4 m launch (3m in America and 1m in Others ).

And then 500 000 units per week : which is still huge. So around 8 million by the end of 09. However i think mario will be around 5 million at this time.

Ltd I think it will be a virtual tie ( around 15 million each ).

why lifetime sales for NSMBW?MW2 will easily sell 14-15 million...do u guys really expect 14-15million for NSMBW?and some guys hatin on people who say that GT5 will sell more than 10 mill...i really dont get it!

just like the "will gtaIV outsell MarioKart Wii" threads lol look what happened there

Just go check the current sales of Mario kart Wii or DS or NSMB ds : around 19million

So i'd even say 15m is conservative (but based on the fact that Galaxy sold around 9million so it's like an average). The Mario franchise is still strong even on Wii.

End of 09 -- MW2

Lifetime -- NSMB Wii

NSMB Wii will have legs, MW2 won't have legs

simple as that

Where do you come up with this garbage?

MW2 will sell strongly for a long, looong time.

It has already been shown that a week one of around 6m for MW2 is almost guaranteed now, it then has 6 weeks (through the holidays) to sell a further 6-7m. I don't think it is that big a stretch...

I'm not saying it's a stretch, but it is undoubtedly the high end prediction here. Could it do it? Yes, if all the ducks gets lined up in a row. However, it could do a few million worse also. I don't think it could do any better than 13 million, so you are essentially banking on the best case scenario happening here.

like the usual HD games very high week 1 sales lower for the next 3 then bombing out of the charts faster than a Wii off the shelves at christmas
