November 2, 2009 - Welcome to Nintendo Voice Chat, IGN.com's Nintendo centric podcast.

The usual and familiar have been thrown out the window in favor of an all-local cast of IGN editors. Freshman host Craig Harris is joined by big boss man Peer Schneider, as well as Guides editor Sam Claiborn and our newbie community guy Scott Bromley.

We're talking about all things New Super Mario Bros. Wii. If you don't like spoilers, then you might want to skip this one. Or at least fast forward to about 40 minutes in when we talk about Excitebike World Rally and the new Nintendo DSi LL system.

Plus, we answer a bunch of listener mail. Remember, you can e-mail us your questions.

Nintendo Voice Chat podcast summary

November 3rd, 2009 Posted in DS, News, Wii, Written by Valay

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

- There are explanation blocks in the game
- Peer loves the multiplayer
- He can play through a level with his kids
- Hit the A buttom at any time during multiplayer to go into the bubble, can help someone who is stuck
- Peer feels Nintendo cut corners with the game in some ways (ex: Two Toads)
spoiler

- When you get 99 lives and you beat a level, you’ll show up on the map screen hatless, will be hatless in the game until you lose a life
- There are many 1-up opportunities
- Much harder than New Super Mario Bros. (DS)

Spoiler

- In one of the worlds, Bowser Jr. misses his ship, falls off, then he’s running off – that becomes a level
- Craig really likes the game but New Super Mario Bros. feels like a huge step backward (unlike other Mario games, it’s not the pinnacle experience for the console)
- A lot of people have been under the impression that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the DS game
- There’s a bunch of unique stuff later in the game
- Mini-Mario makes a return

- Koopa Kids are a great addition
- Releasing November 15
- Peer is excited for it
- There will be written/video reviews from Craig

Excitebike: World Rally

- Monster Games is developing the game
- Excite Truck sold decently, Excitebots didn’t but it came out of nowhere
- Basically redid the original
- When you take out enemies on the track (change lanes), engine cools down
- Can do wheelies over others, but it won’t cool down your engine
- Game was good for when it came out in the era, but Craig says people have moved on
- He still likes playing the original, it’s fun, but it’s just more of the same now
- It’s cool that they did it
- Don’t know what the price is, Craig hopes it isn’t 1,000 points
- Added ability to play tilt
- Also when you hit A you can look fully down the course – but it really screws with your mind
- Looking at it, Peer says it looks like a DSi game, what you should be able to download
- There’s been a lot of revivals/remakes on Wii

Nintendo DSi LL

- Called XL in the U.S.
- Making the handheld bigger
- Larger screens
- Comes with a huge stylus/pen
- Peer thinks they should have been smarter how they revealed the system
- Not the replacement for the DSi that is out now

Reader questions

- No in-your-face notices about WiiWare games when you boot up the Wii, people only know about new WiiWare games through emails – It’s slowly getting better, though
- Sonic, ActRaiser, Super Castlevania IV are all good VC titles
- New Play Control! Super Mario Sunshine would make a lot of sense – Nintendo hasn’t really talked about the NPC! series since their last release

Honestly I'd prefer no more NPC games, Pikmin and Metroid Prime Trilogy are the only ones that actually were worth it in my opinion.

I dont think we'll see new NPC games in NA, the 3 that are out havent sold very well, maybe we'll see more stuff like Metroid Prime Trilogy isntead

I still want Pikmin 2 and Chibirobo.  They can quit after that, but at least give us what Japan got...

Boring chat :P

I don't think they'll make NPC Super Mario Sunshine for the simple reason that I think it'll be a DS2 launch title.

That´s not a spoiler, its a sad truth

- Craig really likes the game but New Super Mario Bros. feels like a huge step backward (unlike other Mario games, it’s not the pinnacle experience for the console)

Understand now? I dont know where da hell Patcher is getting that this is going to sell

Is New Super Mario Bros. for DS the pinnacle experience for that system? Definitely not. Yet it has sold 20 million copies.

NSMBWii doesn;t have to be the pinnacle game of the Wii for it to sell in bucket loads, you'll be very surprised just how much it sells over time.
