Forums - Sales - Has the 360 turned the corner in North America?

I never thought I would see the 360 outselling the Wii in late October. I figured it would have a good two-week run with Halo 3 but the console just keeps on truckin'.

So, is this a trend? Will it last and for how long? When will the Wii reclaim the console crown?

Personally, I think it is a trend. I think that BioShock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Splinter Cell, and others will drive NA 360 sales through spring until GTA IV hits (when I think we'll see another price cut). Overall, I think things look very good for the 360. I think the 360 can run neck-and-neck with the Wii until at least the end of the year, mainly based on Nintendo's overall supply problems because they are so strong in every market while Microsoft can focus mainly on the North American market for its console deliveries. If MS is lucky with the Arcade, it might even be able to run with the Wii until the end of February or so.

What do you guys think? Trend, Halo, or both? Will it last? When will the Wii retake the crown?

Bwe he he he....

You think the Wii will be outsold by the 360 when Mario Galaxy comes around?

I actually think a lot of people would agree with me here.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I do think if the 40gig ps3 is a major success it may spur a 360 price cut. Major success meaning tripling the numbers of PS3s sold each week. If not I see a replay of last season.

You have to realize that the Wii is STILL constrained by supply. The ONLY reason why the 360 is selling better right now is because Ninty isn't putting enough consoles on the selves. Come holiday season, the tables will turn in a big way.

Tables will turn in a big way, yes everything will sell alot more! =) If they are supply restrained now you think they will have enough for the holidays? I don't know about this claim that nintendo is stockpiling hundreds of thousands of wiis. It just doesn't seem very plausible.

I dont know, ive yet to go into a game store and not see a wii, they always have some, may be different where i live....

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Heh, read my post again. I never said the 360 would outsell the Wii during that time, I only said it would stay close. Which I think it will. Will the Wii ultimately win? Without a doubt. But even the most jaded observer has to be impressed with the 360's sales over the past two months.

Maybe, there may not be enough Wiis to compete this Christmas. I have avoided picking a hi-def console, have a Wii now and that is enough, and will hold off a bit longer just to see how things go but if I had to pick one up this holiday it would be a 360 arcade, so for me it does not seem that much of a long shot in a world where Nintendo can not meet the normal weekly demand.

I really, really, really wish that just for once, everyone would read what an OP typed.

I mentioned the Wii was supply constrained and I even admitted that if the 360 stays close, it will probably be due to Wii supply constraint. If given unlimited manufacturing capability, that thing would sell like free baseball bats outside the postgame celebration of a Chelsea/Manchester game.

People, Reggie told that holiday supply would be unprecedented. Nintendo would be stupid not to do so. They have to hit hard both Microsoft and especially Sony which will do some heavy damage in 08. They have to strike hard this holiday.
