Sony: PlayStation 3 Profitability In 2010

I think that 2010 will ACTUALLY be the year of the ps3. 2009 was great, but sony still lost money. When sony actually starts making profit, the console war (360 vs ps3) will finaly begin IMO.

What do you think this will do for Sony?

PS3 will be 4 years old by then, somehow i think the console wars began awhile back.

I was using a metaphor, I realize the console wars began when the consoles came out. If you have any sense of logic whatsoever, you would understand that if ps3 had profit, it would make it on an even playing field for the xbox 360. Profit was the key to the 360's success, without it, ps3 would still have gta4, tekkan 6, and FFXIII as exclusives.

I understand your point chode, settle down. Who cares if its an even playing field by year 4? Congrats Sony, it only took you most of the console generation to even the playing field, well done.

The only good thing it will do for Sony is put them back in black and hopefully end the layoffs they have been having to do. I can't see the ps3 making cash over 10 years though for Sony like the ps2 has.

Had to change my sig to get some moderator to quit bitching about it......

Around the Network

I think Sony have actually fought too hard for the PS3. They would have been better off accepting their third-place position, serving their most dedicated customers well, earning what money they could off the PS3, and focusing on how to turn things around with their next console.

Three years of burning money, and what has it earned them? Sony's retained a certain amount of marketshare and mind share, but Nintendo has proven that you don't need a massive, established presence to seize the console market. It hasn't attracted new development, since the PS3 is basically coasting on in-progress projects, first party exclusives, and HD multiplats.

Taken as a whole, I don't think that the PS3 will ever be a profitable venture for Sony. Even the format victory will be short-lived as digital distribution squeezes out disc-based media.
