This led to me and MM trying to figure the timeline of Square's CEOs.
Masafumi Miyamoto founded the company and stayed until 1992.
Tetsuno Mizuno was from 1992-1996.
Tomoyuki Takechi was President from 1996-2000.
Yoichi Wada was President from 2000 till now.
Jun Iwasaki founded the whole Square EA/Square USA thing in about 1998 as well.

Wada become CEO right around the start of last gen, which means he's probably responsible for the plethora of FF titles this gen and last. The remakes started last gen on the GBA, if you recall, as did the numerous FFVII spin-offs.

I'm not necessarily trying to prove much, just trying to be informative.
this game needs more FF characters.
one hero one villaion doens't cut it
also more detailed story line and more open world for the story.
wada running square have been one biggest mistakes happen to square, while the pull ahead in leader as RPG goes.
their games are not as variable as the snes or ps1 era, spirit within failed, and mainly because it try to be too western causing the company to almost bankrupt but stay afloat thanks to sony.
and a now is trying again to go western, failing miserably but of course, recent popularity the brand had with FF X, KH, Dissidia, 13, Versus mainly due tetsuya nomura crazy ideas.
who would have made disney+FF cross over so successful ? and it looks like its the only in the company trying new things-
but of course he it's only one realizing previous games were popular due the amount of japanese culture it had in it, it was different yet alluring to western cultures.
but also worked great on their own, now Versus it's looking to have more italian/euro background but without being loyal to japanese roots, and not trying to be WRPG.
