Forums - Website Topics - To ioi -- hardware database is looking good... couple more suggestions

Ok, I like the date range, that is cool...  here are a few more suggestions.

-First, I don't see where you can do a "none" for any of the 3 consoles which means that you default load all three machines.  To avoid a database hit every time, default all three to none and let the user choose 1, 2, or 3 different systems.  There is no reason to crunch numbers for two other systems if the user just wants one...  It'll help keep the site hopping along.

-Second, I do like that you can now get enough granularity to see the actual number for the week if you mouse over it.  I would still like to see a table at the bottom with a total (maybe another checkbox?  show weekly and show totals cumulative totals for the period?).  So, in other words, I want to know how the Xbox 360 did last holiday to get an idea of how it is going to do this holiday.  It would be nice if we could see the total number all at once in a table.  So, the Xbox 360 sold X million over the holiday period... Right now that requires I copy down each number into a spreadsheet and do it myself.

I think the Xbox 360 did about 3 million worldwide last holiday -- It would be cool to just pop it up and see... I'm too lazy to add it all up.

These are some good ideas! Another idea to help compare with past sales is to add a date range for each console. That way you can compare a console to its previous years sales. Also have the total sales zero out at the begining of the date range you select. Not like it is now when you select a date range it gives you the consoles total since launch.

Go to the Hardware Table, pick X360, North America, and date range for the last holiday and you get the total. Can get all consoles for all regions that way too.

I think what he wants to copy and paste is a list of the weekly numbers, not just totals over a time period.

That's close enough... But the weekly trend chart is nice because you can compare two periods of time -- say one holiday over another... stuff like that -- but this is good...

great job on the hardware database!

What about showing how much each console/ handheld sell for each quarter in a year?

Ioi --- Just another thumbs up. I like all the new analysis stuff... Much easier to get what I'm after. Thanks for taking the time to add these features. As I get more time to play with the numbers, I'll post up other thoughts.

@ Naraku....there is the worldwide hardware tab, which shows shipments for each half a year (should be updated soon)...and if you want quarterly sales use the new tables, easy as pie.

There are only two problems I have with the new charts, one is the lack of aligning launches, and the other is that when the date range is large, all the dates get crushed into onto the x-axis, and highlighting the line to see the exact weekly number is obscured when it happens to be over all the crushed dates.....minor problems though, everything is so much easier than before.

The only other thing I see is that the vertical axis on the charts doesn't start at zero, which can make for confusing or misleading charts. Check out the weekly sales charts with the vertical axis starting at 40,000, PS3 looks like it's hardly selling anything.
