Forums - Microsoft - Can the 360 win another NPD month?

Perhaps there's starting to be a consumer mentality shift where people are seeing such contrasting media attention and it's beginning to affect buyer behavior?

I like to think it's the opposite because I put ultimate faith in the intelligence of man over media, but you could be right. Without a doubt, there is definitely a sway with the media. Whether it is caused by popular upheaval or intended agenda is another argument.

Either way, the 360 is appealing right now while if the PS3 gets attention, it's the bad kind.

It's too bad GTAIV was delayed until next year, it would have been interesting to see how many more 360 sales it would have generated and how much more momentum it would have given the 360 heading into November/December.

Yes, but now we get to see that momentum sustained through 08, with only SSBB to actually face the X360 juggernaught next year :)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

only? it's going to be bigger than halo 3, we just aren't realising that yet.

SMG is going to fail hard once parents realize that Nintendo is calling them and their kids all gay with the box art. All it takes is one crazy women to get the game to fail, i might just have to wear a dress and go on CNN

Yeah, it's ONLY the biggest Wii title announced thus far, and it's ONLY another month until Mario Kart. What happens when Nintendo has online games?

360 is definitely going to have the biggest October NPD.  Super Mario Galaxy doesn't launch until November.  :)

I remember when people were predicting outrageous sales for Metroid Prime 3 (some were even thinking it's sales would rival Halo 3's), of course we now know that it is simply not the case.  So basically the only thing that can be said is that all sure bets are off the table when it comes to the Wii because it really is harder to predict what kind of sales it's games will have.  Everyone predicting incredibly high sales for Nintendo's hardcore franchise titles have to remember that the Wii's userbase is now much more diverse and a title like SSBB might not sell as well as some people are expecting.  I'm not saying it won't sell in the millions but you're comparing it against a title like Halo 3 in which the vast majority of the userbase is attracted to such games.

SSBB is going to make a very large dent in the market for sure, but one game is not sufficient to support a system.  Of course, I don't think Nintendo is going to be riding just on SSBB by then either.

It's really not hard to understand why the 360 is doing well.  It's not fancy marketing.  It's not just Halo 3, It's ALL the games.

This month's GameInformer magazine, for example, gave out three 9.75's.  That almost never happens and they couldn't figure out which game to choose for game of the month easily!

What were the three games?  Halo 3, Orange Box, and Mass Effect.  What system has all 3?  The 360.

Halo simply is at the spearhead of a wave of amazingly good games.  And right now there is only one console that has them all:  the 360.

Even the upcoming games that are multiplatform (Orange Box  on PS3, Assasin's Creed, Rock Band, GHIII, etc.) don't help Sony much, because to date, history has shown that multi-platform games play better on the 360 than they do on the PS3.  (Call of Duty, Madden, etc.)

The PS2 won the last round because of games, and the winner of this round will also be determined by games.  Sony really needs some major exclusives, and more than one or two.   They need to get back in the fight or...

Microsoft will finish the fight in 2008.
