Forums - Sony - Sony PS division has lost $4.7 billion since launching PS3

So, if the Playstation continues to drag the company down financially, why are they still making it?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Also, somebody mentioned Xbox in this thread, a few posts up. This is a Sony thread in a Sony forum. Yeesh!

That's because the Xbox was mentioned in the OP... doesn't anybody read anymore??? Yeesh!

@ZEN. If they stopped making the PS3 now, they would either have to shy away from their "ten year plan" and release the next gen console, or they would be admitting defeat and backing out of the gaming industry...possible for good. Sony was betting on brand name to carry the bloated (both in hardware and in price) PS3 and they lost. Perhaps next gen they will do things differently.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

I am quite humbled, ironman. Thank you.

Nobody here is saying otherwise... and who is taunting? I want all 3 to do well, I like the difference we get from all 3.

I'm sorry mate but that post strikes me as a little defensive... it isnt a taboo subject and we can discuss it. If its too painful for you then dont participate.

That article just confirms they are still losing on the actual manufacturing of the console as far as I can see, which is ridiculous after a slim re-design and 3 years on the market.

I have pointed out elsewhere that Ninty profits have dropped by 50%, (even though The Source has it wrong at 30% for some reason) and that is also pretty shocking.

A. That isn't this thread, that's why I removed the comment. B. Nothing about this is "painful", so you can throw that out the window, I enjoy games, not numbers. However, if you read carefully, I explained what happened here.

My link was for a perspective from a different angle. However, since you went there, I want to see thsi reaction from you in Microsoft threads, you know, places where you show your defensive side on a regular.

Exactly, everything he says about Sony is always negative but oh no, when it comes to Microsoft, he always says positive things. I ve noticed that about your posts kowenicki. And yea , I admit some of your points are valid but you get my point.

And i should care why, seriously why the hell should i care about some corp. I care about the games the product i buy but why the hell would you care about their profits.

To clarify... I am very often positive about PS3 games... I even buy them

I find it impossible to be positive about Sony financials (there is nothing positive about them) or the way they set about this gen, it was a total mess....

Thats not to say it couldnt change at some point... it might. They may start the next gen differently and I may be much more understanding of how they operate and embrace the PS4 like I did the PS1 and PS2.

Yea, you buy ps3 games doesn't mean anything because i'm yet to see a platinum trophy in your collection. They knew what they were getting into  when they launched the ps3 and yea , I feel it was expensive too but I bought it because at least I knew they didnt rush out the hardware and also we all know Sony's billion dollars loss is horrible but aint there some good things about them apart from that?Because even in other posts you have in other Sony topics it's either negative or neutral but that's cool. Despite the losses they still continue to put out quality games and not charge customers for unecessary items.

Sony lesson 1: Don't make your console a technical powerhouse or else you'll lose a shitload of money afterwards.

You know the next xbox is gonna be more powerful than the ps3 right?
