Forums - Microsoft - How can Xbox Live maintain its greatness?

Sony is simply catching up to XBL in terms of quality and the ways for MS to continue to differentiate itself through XBL are becoming rarer.

I think that MS should reduce the price of the XBL service, something that it is already doing (soft price cut) as it is offering more services for the silver or bronze thing (whatever it is called) like netflix.

I think MS is going to struggle to keep Live well ahead of PSN simply beacuse it already fufils its core function really well, but there is nothing to stop Sony playing 'catch up' while MS has to figure out actual new stuff which normally takes way longer than simply equalling something that's already in place.

Live was a huge difference for a long time, and really the only useful console online IMHO for a long time - but of course with PSN Sony can copy the basic template and in the end, apart from adding more and more non-gaming features, unless the games themselves change Sony should be able to more or less equal Live faster than MS can add new stuff.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Rumors been going around the internet saying Live will cost 100 dollars starting next year.

Oh god someone used 'the list'
Can't we have one MS thread without it?

First off: people touting Facebook and Twitter on Live are dumbshits who don't realize the PS3 has a browser. Really people, come on.

And I think Xbox Live would be an amazing value if they simply lowered the price or just made it free. When i was choosing consoles, a huge deterrent for me was the xbox live subscription fee. Even after I got my PS3, Gears 2 and some then-exclusive jrpgs tempted me, but again the Live subscription fee killed it. Basically it was, I would've had to pay $60 for Gears, then pay $50 to play it with people, and time and time again that turned me away.

That is the reason I don't like Live, it feels like I am paying for something twice

Especially, especially when a game is meant to be mostly multiplayer, like Borderlands and Halo: ODST.

I feel cheated for having to pay for XBL
