Wow, 16 million for some idiot not knowing when to go to the bathroom.

It was her own stupidity that led to her death, not the radio contest. She should of stopped when she couldn't go any longer.

If I died in a "see how long can stay burried in snow" contest because I was too stupid to get out when I couldn't handle it, I wouldn't expect 16 million dollars, I would expect to be called an idiot, just like this woman.

Drinking too much water will kill you even if you do use the bathroom.  It's called water poisoning.  Basically, your water to salt/electrolyte ratio drops so much that your brain can't send electrical signals needed to keep you going.

You wouldn't have a contest where whoever can take the most cyanide wins.

They do have those contests, and they are called cults. And those people are also idiots!

And I know what water poisoning is, your body has failsafes to prevent you from doing something stupid like that to kill yourself. It's funny. huamns are so "smart" that they can ignore there body telling them to STOP, thus being stupid, how ironic. so smart you are stupid! When you get cramps your body is telling you you are workign too hard, and your body thinks "hey, I'm going to make this part of you hurt like hell so you stop doing it!" and usually it works, unless you are a dumbass and keep pushing yourself. That lady knew when she had drank too much, you will start to feel terrible, and she didn't stop. Maybe the radio should have had medical staff ready, for all we know there could have been, I don't know, but even if there weren't any I still think the lawsuit is dumb.

Kind of like a fat person with heart problems riding a rollercoaster and geting a heart attack and the family sueing the park because he died on their ride. HELLO you have heart problems! don't go on the intense stuff! not the theme parks problem, they even have those little warning signs before you get on.

The only time I see a lawsuit being perfectly ok is when the company / organization is clearly at fault. For example a train derailing (unless it's caused by something like an earthquake), a latter breaking, a support failing, etc. But when it's your own damn fault, I don't care at all.

And the leaders of those cults are arrested and sued.  Are you saying the leaders should get off scott free?  Runners experience intense pain, their bodies tell them to stop, but they keep going.  Do you think they are idiots?  And even if they are idiots, people who have below average intelligence are a fact of life and shouldn't be manipulated by an idiotic contest that attracts idiotic people.  Don't tell me you've never had a momentary lapse of judgement where you do something idiotic either -- it happens to everyone.  Add to that the spirit of competition, and you have a recipe for disaster.

There are normally warnings for people with heart conditions wherever there are rollercoasters.  There weren't any warnings for the contest.

Finaly the family can get the justice they deserve.

Finally the family can afford the Wii they deserve.

Insensitive joke aside, this woman, not a big brain in her head, but man she was willing to go through *anything* to get that Wii, which I assume was for her children that she loved dearly.

Its scary to think that between the radio station personnel and all the participants, nobody knew the dangers of holding back ones pee for that long. What happened to common sense?

To a degree.  I don't think it's common sense to think something as natural and needed as water could kill you.  Besides, there are eating contests all the time, so why not drinking contests (and I've been in my fair share of those, but it wasn't water we were drinking).  She didn't die from holding in her pee.

When you start puking, that's where the common sense should kick in, but between the water intoxication which was affecting her brain and the spirit of the competition, I can see this happening.  Some people hate to lose, and that's a natural emotion.  This isn't the first time somebody has died from a drinking (water) contest, and when there's a sponsored event, people are generally going to think it's safe.  If it were a group of friends that decided to do this on their own, I have a feeling the outcome would be different, but everything changes when strangers are watching you and you're in a competition.  Also, no doubt she psyched herself up for the contested and became determined to win no matter what.  That's what most people do before competing.  She was probably encouraged to kick some ass by those that are close to her as well, and unfortunately, got caught up in the moment.  Sometimes, that's human.

Water poisoning. Damn anything can kill ya.

Damn straight. Actually, now thinking about it, you can even drown from milk and even a bed sore.

OT: Well, the radio was negligent because they ailed to provide any medical assistance. 16 Million dollars paid to the people who filed the suit is Justice IMO. However, to the person who said that isn't intelligent to do that and that the mother should be called an idiot, although I don't believe that she was a complete idiot, IMHO, I have to agree with you. Too much of anything is bad for you, even water, the purist, most neutral substance in the world.

This is the true definition of owning.

Woman was an idiot. Radio station was run by idiots.

The radio station deserved to be sued but I'm not sure if the family deserved to get money because their relative was a moron.

Besides, puking would take you out of the contet, so she didn't even puke.
