Yeah, its far fetched but everyone here shocked too when multiple sites sys SMG was GOTY. Including GT and IGN. And it released in november too 2 months before the year ends. So I wonder would it be possible?

well there are candidates like Uncharted 2 and COD MW2, but... thats all I think as of now that could be GOTY. Unless you include halo 3: ODST.

It has very stiff opposition from titles like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3: ODST, and others.

Then again the internet hate for the Wii seems to be on a high and love for the HD twins seems to be on a high as well.

I don't think so, SMG had the innovation that NSMBWii lacks. It was a Mario game that the core could get behind.

NSMBWii has a shot and will easily get the Wii GOTY but I think Uncharted 2 and MW2 will be too strong.

So whats IGN and other sites as SMG being GOTY of 2007 then? A anamoly in gaming journalism? Because SMG DID COMPETE with Bioshock and COD 4.

No offence but it's kind of stupid to even compare NSMBWii with SMG. Everyone knew that that was going to be the next big Mario 3D platformer and when reviews came out and the game ended up winning many awards no one was surprised that the game did so well (HD or no HD, it's a 3D Mario platformer). No one is expecting NSMBWii to be an extremely good game in terms of quality. It's multiplayer mode and appeal towards the more casual crowd will assure that it will sell 10-20 million, but in terms of quality it's really not expected to be in the same league as SMG and SMG2.

It will no doubt be Wii GOTY, but there's no way it will be overall GOTY over Uncharted 2 or MW2. If it gets better reviews than those 2 than it will probably be one of the most surprisingly good games ever.

The game might do well at peer=based awards shows like IAA, GDC or BAFTA (they all nominated and gave lots of awards to Wii Sports), but while quality isn't the main aspect that those awards shows take into consideration, NSMBWii would have to have a huge impact on the industry, and honestly I don't think it will (I can definately see it getting a BAFTA nod for GOTY though, but not a win).

So... let me guess. You considered SMG as a core game? Who really judge a game which is core and which is not? And why NSMB Wii shouldnt even considered to be atleast a GOTY contender because of its userbase?!!

Though I hope this game will rank in sales same as NSMB DS.
