While the premise of the argument has merit, some of the examples provided have problems.

Some are quality -- most people find GTR derivative of MK. (Though GTR did get better reviews -- IGN called it more derrivative than Diddy Kong Racing, then scored it 0.4 higher than MK64).

Some are non-exclusivity -- I could play Tomb Raider and RE on my Saturn for example.

That being said, no one can argue the volume of quality found on the PS1.

If I compiled a list of my favorite PS1 games it would be a very different list. But that's why the PS1 was awesome, it had a huge library that appealed to almost everyone.
