Weren't people complaining that Wii games were too easy? Now its too hard and you complain still? |
I haven't played the game - I haven't even read the review - but I would like to point out here that Mario games have always been about perfect control. When you add 4 players to the mix, it might be that you lose a lot of that control. Thus it might feel that the game kills you unfairly. That is not the kind of difficult that makes the game fun.

Really, I only saw them complain about the multiplayer there. Now, if single player is solid, and it sure seems to be, even if multi is not great (other people said it was, so maybe it depends on taste, or maybe it's just not as they wanted it to/though it should be, who knows), a solid single player 2D Mario with close to 80 levels and the return of many classic elements as well as the addition of some new and nice attention to detail (according to the ONM guy) is worth itself a lot more then a 7 IMO. There's no way an extra mode can LOWER a score, it just makes no sense.
So there's not much innovation. Well, neither did the DS game, or Super Mario World for that matter. So what? If it's good and fun as hell, it's good and fun as hell. I don't think a sequel should score lower when you actually have more fun with it just because it doesn't seem to change all that much, makes no sense, I though the purpose of reviews where helping you decide what game to buy, and that you would want to buy whatever game gives you the more fun for your money. But anyway.
Also, some people talked about online. I'm not even sure a Mario game would really work online. I sure don't want those pesky 200 mili seconds between me and Mario.
I played a PC port of Super Mario Bros 3, like a free flash game, I can't even get pass to the 4th level, its sooo hard, I hated it (stupid cutey flying turtles!!!) ... maybe like me, those guys at Edge just don't have any Mario skills?
was there ever a review for a hyped wii game that wii fans didn't whine about?

FFX < FFX-2? Well it's an opinion but, I can't understand how FFX-2 can get a better score than FFX. Imo, they aren't on the same level at all...

Final Fantasy X did NOT deserve a 6 lmao...
its voted the best game of ALL TIME in japan and it got a 6 from edge....
wow seriously they fail like CRAP.
i am absolutely mad at their BS!!!
i won't be surprised if the gave FF13 a freaking 7.

I haven't paid attention to the EDGE reviews of games with 'Wii' in the title. They don't seem to appreciate Nintendo's mainstream Wii titles. They disliked Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort and now NSMB Wii. The former two I've had great fun with, both alone and with friends, and I expect to have great fun with NSMB Wii next month. Although I'm an EDGE subscriber, I don't take their word as the ultimate truth. I think they got the same person to review Kart, Sports Resort and now this-the style of the reviews and complaints about the games all seem very familiar.
EDGE still love Nintendo's core titles though, so I guess this is an example of the 'core' section of the industry still failing to warm to more mainstream ('casual' if that pleases you) fare Nintendo provide.

Personally, I liked FFX-2 a lot more than X. So yeah, I can perfectly understand why someone could give a score like that.
