Forums - Microsoft - Selnors last FM3 thread. But worth it. :)

Maybe the best physics on consoles at the time of release but I am predicting a better one will be out in a couple months, still a great looking game.

I set the car damage to totally realistic, and then tried to drive a car into a wall at around 100 miles per hour. Selnor, why didn't the car get completely totaled? I am curious about this awesome you speak of. Forza 3 is real good, but come on. Please explain.

Have to agree with libellule in parts. I didn't realise how bad the roll overs in this game are until i saw the comparison with dirt 2 and nfs shift. As for tyre deformation, i really don't know if it would move around that much, the cosmetic modeling seems alittle extreme. Here's hoping the physics modeling is better.

You don't know how it is in real life, but you hope the physics are better?

Yeah i didn't really explain myself very well.  What i meant was that the visual tyre deformation looks over the top. But i hope (and i believe it would be, forza physics are very good) that the physics simulation of tyre deformation would be more accurate

Tyre deformation is nigh on perfect. To the doubters. Here is a real video of tyre deformation. Notice the tyre move around by about 3 inches! At points it's so visible there is a huge gap between the rim and the tyre. Bare in mind the first video in the OP has the car sliding completely sideways in slomo. Thats why the wheel stops moving as there is no forward momentum only sideways at the point.

Also for those saying about damage here, that wasn't the point of the videos. It was the brilliant physics in the rollovers that was impressive.

The last vid you show just shows how wrong forza does it but i think it best i stop posting because i will get a ban

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Take a look at the video selnor posted.  If anything, and the circumstances in the two videos are different, the tire deformation in Forza 3 is not as pronounced as real life.

And just to reiterate what the simulation is there for. The main reason that they added tire deformation to the simulation engine was not for a visual flair, but for a more realistic simulation of car handling.

Really? I think it's the closest a game has ever got. LFS for instance is WAY to pronounced. Also you have to take into account the real video had lower profile tyres than the one I posted of FM3. Obviously the more tyre the more it will move. But then I didnt expect FM haters to think about that. The thread wasn't designed for this type of person.

looks very similar to the roll overs on GTAIV imo.. whether it's right or wrong I guess.. will always be debatable

I hate Turn 10 bigmouths, but I have to say the tires are pretty impressive.
