Forums - Sony - PS2 "problem"? Or something else?

The PS2 is saying you should be playing the PS3. It's tired of satisfying you. lol.

That sucks, 9 years on the market and it still isn't reliable.

When did you get it fixed?

@Soriku

I would go out and buy a Fat PS2, The Slim ones tend to break VERY easy.

i get buzzing too, its connection problem, the metal parts aren't making full contact with the TVs thing, game music should quite the noise though.

@Soriku

Yeah but the fat ones have a fan built in, way more reliable than the slim without fans.

Dearest Soriku-kun, so you have the same model PS2 as I do. Mine has been through hell. I left it on playing Tekken 5 one time and forgot about it for over 2 weeks before I realized I left it on. It still plays like new.

Here is what you do:

UNPLUG YOUR PS2 FROM THE WALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

For god sakes, it's dangerous to clean electronics when they are plugged in. Unplug it. DANGER

Get some compressed air, 2 Q-tips, and some rubbing alcohol.

Now, open your lid, and blow out the PS2 really well with the air.

Next, dip your Q-tip in the alcohol, and squeeze the alcohol out of it, making it dry, but damp.

Very gently and thoroughly clean your PS2 laser eye with the damp Q-tip, in a circular motion.

Next, dry it off with the compressed air. Also, let it dry completely, 45 minutes.

Make sure the PS2 is in a ventilated area. Also, blow out the rear fans on your PS2 with the compressed air.

If it's still not working right, you've basically field cleaned your unit. It might be broken. Sell it, and buy a new one. A new one is 99 bucks. Sell a Wii game on Ebay, sell your old PS2 which gamestop will buy, or just sell it on Ebay. Be honest about its functionality. People there can fix it.

The 70000x models are fine, and they are probably the most dependable Playstation 2's that were ever created. With the 90000xx model, the PSU was moved to internal functioning, which causes a little more heat/wear/tear on the unit. Your model is fine, and it's the second newest model in the Playstation 2 line. PS2 phats are significantly inferior to it, in most every way, including drive reliability and average life expectancy. Plus you'll never get circular scratches from the terrible floating disc trey on the phat.

Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and buy a new one though. Get em now, before they're gone.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

BTW, on a phat, you couldn't clean the lense, it would just be "broken."

Also, if you have dirty disc', you need to invest in some microfiber cloth. It will do wonders for your disc cleanings. You can put intense pressure on the disc surface without worrying about scratching, due to the nature of the cloth. You can get a really good one on amazon for 2 or 3 dollars. There is also a pro buffing machine on sale there that I saw recently for about 120 bucks, which is a great deal.

I'm actually thinking of going back and playing Radiata Stories(sp?), Grandia III, Onimusha 3, and Suikoden V, because I missed them the first time through. I'll let you know.

I unplug my PS2 when I'm done playing for a while.

Btw, my PS2 isn't dusty at all. I clean the insides where I put the disc in before I play, and I wipe the top of it. Also, I wipe the area where I play too so there's no dust.

Also, I'm not buying a new one.

I'll try DQ VIII later and see if it has the same problem since that disc is real clean.

It doesn't need to be dusty to have a dirty lense. It just needs some bad luck. That said, if it worries you to clean it, don't do it. You can mess if up if not careful. I suggest youtube for a video instruction if you decide to do it.

The PS2 is a piece of shit, that's the problem. Much like the first 360's, the fat PS2 is terrible, faulty and noisy hardware.
