Forums - Sony - Kratos- A character with purpose or just angry for no reason?(MAD SPOILERS)

The J man has extensively played all God of War games and by far the first was his favourite out of the 3 , Kratos unknowingly kills his family because of the god he worked for and works his way even through hell to get his ultimate revenge and also try to forget the deed he had done......he was broken but eventually killed Ares and eventually takes his place as the god of war...but then it gets weird.

At the beginning of GOW 2 we are shown that Kratos has revived his spartan army and is attacking...wait for it....ATHENAS  CITY for absolutely no reason!!!....The god who (it could be argued) got him his position as the god of war. The god who warned him to stop going out of control or face the reprocussions was having her city destroyed by the person she helped though his journey........they zeus comes and rightfully kills Kratos (not before geniously taking away his powers as gods cant fight gods).........and then Kratos cheats death because of the titans blah blah blah.

What do you think of kratos ...do you still feel he has a purpose or do you believe that this is a position he put himself and deserves to die?

Well its been awhile since i played the beginging of 2, but i believe he isn't attacking Athens, he's actually making an a attack on the city of Rhodes, hence the big boss fight with the collosus of Rhodes Athena only wants him to stop waging war on the other city states no nessisarily on Athens itself

BTW, jesus kung fu magic, did you actually play the 2 main series games? I think it would have at least been obvious with the ending of the first game...

The very first sentence in the OP was...

"The J man has extensively played all God of War games and by far the first was his favourite out of the 3"

Kratos was a guy who sees himself as being screwed by the gods constantly - Area manipulated him into killing his family, Athena lied through inaction about taking away his nightmares, Zeus..... ah, Zeus. Zeus was a dick.

I think it speaks volumes about him that he forgave Athena for lying to him, and for not letting him die. It says a lot that he felt sorrowful over killing her.

Kratos attacks Athenas City for finding your mother and discover who are your father... there is a reason.
Athenas is a lier.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Yea I did.......you fall off the cliff....athena saves you and says your the god of war....you have the blades of athena but cant use it on anything (except in the challenge of the gods)

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

If you really played these games all the way through you would know that Krato's was not an all around loving guy when he was first introduced. He was a hardened soldier. So after he became a god, he just continued fighting. As was also mentioned in this thread, he was promised that his memories would go away, but they didn't, so he's still pissed.

Well he's the god of war so...I don't think anyone should expect love and sympathy from one such as himself..

Hmmm, missed that XD

I barely played the 2 games since I was young and sucked at gaming, but I understood the story enough O.o

Yeah, but did you understand the basic and really obvious symbolism? And the moral of the story (you can't take back your past sins and actions. Sorta like karma in the Indian religions)?

In the ending of the first game, he becomes the God of War, as that's all he can dedicate to being now, all he's pretty much done, which is trying to get revenge. He only continue that in the second game, and it's one of the main themes. How Kratos just cannot let go, and blames others (possibly rightly so due the issue of free will and fate) for his actions.
