Forums - Sales - The difficulty of selling a Wii

I dunno, I agree that it's a dick move. I also agree that their isn't much wrong with it considering we live in a capitalist system. It's not like those two are exclusive.

I mean if the local music store charges 20.99 for CDs and FYE charges 25.99 for the same CDS are FYE dicks?

Yeah, for sure, but they can get away with it.

Also, i find the basic statement "These companies try and nickle and dime us to death so what's so wrong about someone else trying to nickle and dime us to death even further." funny.

If only because the term "Nickel and Dime us to death" sounds negative, yet the thought of someone else making it worse seems ok?

Also, it's not really helping the rich, but the desperate. The rich rarely overpay for something they want, they tend to have more time to research products and know exactly what to get and when to get it because of this. They're also less likely to buy something because of hype or brand etc... they generally know the value of stuff is what i'm saying. That's why they're still rich.

Heh this reminds me of back when the PS3 launched, on another message board a guy said he paid 4 bums 100 dollar to stand in line all night so they could buy 3 PS3s for him in the morning for him to sell.

Value is a relative aspect. Classical economic theory and marxist adepts thought value was absolute. They thought you could measure the value of goods just by calculating the amount of work (hours) needed to make that good. That is a wrong view. If value was absolute that means that every price should reflect this value. I do not want to go to deep into that aspect, but I think we all agree on the basics.

Nintendo makes Wiis. They cost less than 250 and they sell it for profit. This means they sell it for more than it is worth for them. We buy it for 250 and most people think (at least I do) it is a bargain. Come on, we get a game, online capabilities and 512 mb to save data (we paid the same price for less 5 years ago). Someone that just wants to play a Wii and has no time to camp may find a good idea to pay 300 for it. What I mean is that he can make (just an example) 100 bucks in that 3 hour he would spend on the line. Theorically, it would be a good deal for him paying 251-349 for that Wii. Now lets say some random "Daddy" forgot to buy the Wii for his daughter Xmas present. That would ruin his and her Xmas. He is desperate enough to pay 1000 dollars for one Wii, just to save his daughter from a traumatic childhood experience.

I do not think the OP is a repulsive human being. He is sot of a smart ass (not an insult), but he is not doing something wrong. Gamestop rip us off much more than that and we still do not complain that much.

Good example. Think Tickle-Me-Elmo a few years back.

Thanks for not calling me a repulsive human being. lol.

Anyway, I'm not gonna justify what I'm doing by saying "Well...other people do a lot worse!" as that's really not justification. My justification is what I'm doing is not innately wrong to begin with. I can only get the price I'm asking for if someone is willing to buy it, and someone is only willing to buy it if they find it convenient enough as opposed to them looking for one for themselves. What I'm selling is a Wii with a convenience charge.

Go ahead, call me a dick. When I make my money, that's just another justification. No, money is not all that matters to me, but I saw an opportunity and jumped on it, which is more than I can say for some people on this board.

I'm an investor looking for a return. Are all people that buy stock dicks? Buy low sell high is the absolute law of investing.

I never said he's doing something illegal, I just said he's a douchebag.  People are absolutely right when they say he can do this but it still doesn't change the fact he's profiting off of other peoples misfortune.

I know u weren't saying it was Illegal, but the way you were talking about it, it was if it was... but no worries...

Misfortune? The "misfortune" of not being able to find a Wii?

It's not like I'm price gouging after a hurricane. These people here can choose to buy from me.

If people like you didn't buy things like Wii's specifically to resell them people that actually want them would not have to payan extra $100 in finding one.  Yes, Dick (and I'm only calling you that there because I'm just assuming you're name is Richard.  Why?  for grins and giggles), you are in fact trying to profit off their misfortune.

Parents know that little Jimmy has his heart set on a Wii for his birthday, Christmas, Tuesday, whatever, and you Dick buy the Wii so they cannot buy it except from you.  So now the parent must scour Ebay and the likes so they can by from Dick here and spend an extra $100 (which is a lot of money) of their hard earned money so Dick can further fuel his greed and think he's doing the world a service.

I know you Dick keep hiding behind your little they can choose to buy from me defense but the thing is when there isn't anyone else to buy from because the other Dick's of the world are forcing them to make the same choice.  You Dick are buying up the supplies and selling them at a higher price.  True, it's no hurricane but that still doesn't make it any more right.

Well, little Jimmy's parents should have started looking earlier.

Keep hiding behind it? I used it once.

The bottom line is that if they really want  one at retail, they can wait in line a Best Buy at 6 in the morning and pray they get some in.

If they really want one at retail they can stalk UPS trucks all day.

Or, they can pay for the convenience of getting one right here and now. No one is forcing anyones hand. If they don't buy from me, they will buy from someone else.

The thing you're missing though is that you're assuming that everyone has the time to wait when people that actually work for a living or has a family just don't have the time. You're also thinking they should be penalized for that by buying from little snots like you when they absolutely should not.

Thus we have the "paying for convenience" argument.

We already know I'm not Santa Claus. I'm not gonna inconvenience myself by going out of the way to buy a Wii and sell it back at cost. Who's gonna pay for the gas I spent? The time I spent?

There is no such thing as a free lunch.
