The thing is though is that Nintendo is the one who decides the price since it's their hardware. CDude isn't the one makign the hardware, he's just being a middleman and needlessly jacking up the price. |
Almost every product has middlemen who jack up the price. And they do so for a very good reason.
Cdude is a middleman, he's jacking up the price in exchange for providing a service (giving someone the ability to buy a Wii that they apparently can't get for the listed price). If that person could get a Wii for the listed price, he wouldn't be providing them with a useful service, and no one would be willing to pay him the extra money (as is apparently the case right now).
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
So... what if I go to the United States and get 5 wiis to resell them for 330 dollars in Mexico? The price for a Wii here is 400 dollars, I would be giving them for less money than they are worth in my country and i would be getting a healthy profit? would that make me a douchebag too?
I can agree with others who do find the reselling of new consoles well above the price that you paid for it (even including tax) to be annoying and frankly dishonest. Let those who actually want a Wii to use and have them buy it from the store. Those who want to be a reseller won't make that much of a profit because there are only so many that you can buy. What will you do if those Wii shortages stop and there is a glut of them and anyone can find a Wii just by walking into a store? Heck, I can walk into about a dozen stores in this metro area and find Wii's just sitting on the shelf. The end is coming soon for those trying to profit off of ebaying consoles for this generation.
If you really are looking to make capital there are many other ways that you can do it and I would be more then happy to understand and support that. You can go to small town auctions of some old person who got put into a home and they are selling all sorts of stuff they have. You can get things cheap and if you know the real value of something you can ebay it for a rather large profit, and it's all acceptable there because you did the work to find the items that will sell on ebay for a profit. I've done that in the past and found some hard to find items that others in the country want and would make a profit of over $1000 on a $20 item I bought at a small town auction. You can do the same by going to those garage sales, but pick neighborhoods that are either well off, or have a large number of older people living there. You can find antiques that they may think is junk. I found a old painting by a guy at a garage sale and they wanted $50 for it. They had no idea who the artist was, but I did and I sold that painting for $1800 (I did have it reframed and new mat, etc put on it, so I did spend a little bit more then $50 overall) . If you ask me, doing the work for that isn't easy and you have to have an eye and understanding of what has a value far larger then what they are asking for and they are happy because they think it's junk or worthless.
Doing stuff like that is perfectly honest to me, but going to a store to buy a new product and sell it for more then the MSRP just because there may be supply issues isn't very honest. If you really want to build capital, I wouldn't put all your eggs into the console basket. Sooner, rather then later, the bottom will fall out.

Considering how great the US dollar is performing you may be better off just having them pay you in pesos.
Also keep in mind that taking items across the border will result in you having to pay import taxes on them too which will minimize any profit that you could make as well as the hassle it would be.

Speculators (generally speaking) worsen shortages because they take away a desired item from a potential buyer in order to profit ... It is a dick move ...
Personally, I don't care if this happens on a luxury item (like a game console) but when it moves into life's necessities (like housing) I see a big problem with it; profiting off of someone else's misery is always a bad thing. This is why when I hear of all those poor realestate speculators losing their "investment" properties, their nest eggs, and destroying their credit rating I get a smile on my face ... (which I admit is a dick move in itself)

No, it would not. Because that's a different situation. You've gone from "scalper" to "trader". |
Yet another sigh.
A "scalper" "trades" their time and effort for profit.
