Too many unknown variables to arrive at 1 mill for L4D. It could just as well be 300k.

Nice article Shio, but i noticed that PC games have to be dirt cheap in order to sell the amount that the 360 does at full price, wait for the 360 Price cut :)

I've already seen sales data for L4D after one of the weekend sales.
The graph looked pretty much like that one, so besides the 120K preorder and the 180K first week, it's a fair assumption that it's similar to this.


you can really say that it sold for sure over 500K.

now some of your other assumptions are probably a bit high, but 800K-1M can't be far from reality.

I don't understand how you arrived at those numbers.

However much you profit from one copy, if you set the price to half you will have to sell twice as much. Ne?

Unless you think that the money that goes to the publisher will be a set amount. But I really don't think that's the case.

No, it couldn't be as low as 300k, because then it would mean that Garry's Mod, without any weekend sale, sold more copies in it's first 2 years than L4D did in the past year...

Garry's Mod sold 312k units from 29/11/2006 to 29/11/2008.

no, they don't come. it's estimated to be 25% of the full market (source), although it's obvious that some games see more digital sales than others.

I could imagine the Valve's games would be skewed towards DD as opposed to retail.
