Forums - Gaming - Whats really with Steam and why many companies wants it?

Steam is easy and inexpensive. I've bought three games from it. I paid $8, $5 and $0. I don't have to DL these games to a PC to play them. If I want to play them at home, in the living room, at my friend's or at my parent's, I just get on Steam and play them.

are those full games? Not demo? just asking bedcause thats too good to be true. Unless its Half life

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

The $8 game is a $20 game which Steam sells for 1/2 price but I bought it on sale.  The $5 game is a $10 game on sale.  The $0 game is a few years old game that used to cost $40, I think.

I rarely play FSP and don't like Half Life or any of the games made by Valve.

Of course, I think Steam offers timed trails for just about every game on the system so you never need to buy a game you don't really enjoy.  Steam also links you to reviews.

What I do is this.  I see the weekend deals every now and then (usually the biggest savings.)  I quickly scroll through them.  If a game seems interesting, I click on meta critic reviews.  If I like the views, I try the timed trail.  If I enjoy the timed trial, I buy the game.  I bought the two games that way and couldn't be happier.

So Digital distribution really that popular? So much for Malstrom and DD was end of gaming. Anyway, how's the downloading process? Is it a pain or it works fine? 4-6 GB full game was too big to download

That's kinda dependent on your connection. I download full sized games now problem and usually have them downloaded by the end of an evening (10Mbps connection). It pauses downloads if you leave it on so it's really not that much of an issue. You also have the advantage that it auto-updates any patches it finds.

empire total war 12gb took me 4 hours to download so their server is pretty fast

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

for me its really nice to have a gaming collection all in one place and pc retail games arent exact sleek and simpley packed like console games so they are not as nicely shelvable plus no losing cd keys :D

LOL no wonder every NA company wants Steam. Its revolutionary when gaming and the internet was concerned. Just think if Warner Music or Apple have acquired Steam. Though I understand Gabe why he dont want to partner with another company regarding Steam.

Though sorry its only my opinion but it will be just a waste if Steam only used on PC games and online games. There are many opportunities if a music company or a software company have a share of Steam.
