Forums - Gaming - Dad shoot son over video game!

Oh wow you just made me remember the knife throwing in GoldenEye. Bravo. I think I used to play games in which everyone had only that weapon just to be crazy.

I reserve judgment until I find out which game this was. Depending on the game, he may have been in the right.

This is true. There are some games you just don't hide from a guy. :p

Being just as deadly is contigent on them being in the same relative positions. If he was willing to get that close to a gun, then he would be willing to get that close to a knife certainly.

That's not at all certain!  Your whole point is hinging on the fact that a gun is deadly at long range while a knife is not; therefore there is a huge incentive to NOT close with a knife-wielder, while there IS a reason to approach a gun-wielder (one who is only threatening you to get something out of you, and not shooting on sight) and then trying to grapple it away.

You're simultaneously acknowledging that a knife is only effective at close range while a gun is not, and claiming that a person facing a gunman would be no more willing to try to grapple it away than when facing a knife-wielder, as opposed to simply running away.

This isn't even over video games. This is over authority. Teenager rebeles over many things as he learns is place in the grand scheme of human interaction. Dad the ass screwed up and did something insanely stupid. Gotta love the focus on VG though.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Its true a gun is more deadly over a distance than a knife, but it is also more deadly close up than far away. Aiming a gun drunk is extremely difficult, and that is not really a secret.Someone willing to put a gun at point blank range probably wouldn't hesitate at the thought of something less intimidating.

This story reminded me of when the PS3 and Wii came out in my city...there was actually a riot outside Best Buy because so many people wanted them. No one died I believe, but still, it was pretty crazy.

Now tell me please, why is having a gun still legal in America?

It's in the 2nd Amendment...which means it's kinda important to our way of life.  Imho, blaming guns, is like blaming games...this bastard would have stabbed the kid, imho...although he might not have caught him, you might say, but...that's speculation.

Video games are not a tool of murder but a tool of entertainment. Weapons are tools of murder.

You can't compare them. Blaming it on guns is like blaming it on things designed to do the thing that it's blamed for causing.

NRA will come and declare than guns don't kill....sick bastards....

You would prefer he stabbed his son? Why people assume there would be no homicide without guns is beyond me. Why people assume someone willing to commit murder would give a shit about gun laws really confuses me.

Obviously this murder was not deliberate. He might have survived the knife... not the gun...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
