If user-generated content is the future of gaming, then wouldn't gaming no longer be anything like it is today. I like the idea of user-generated content but only in moderation. Otherwise I accept my limitations as a person and leave up the game making and content making to the "professionals". Although I could play some kid's platformer created on LBP, I'll take Miyamoto's New Super Mario Bros. over that any day.

So i like the idea of it but I don't want it to become the future in anyway. Just a option for those who want it and allow them to create all those crazy things.

Regarding the topic at hand, wasn't the damage Wii Music caused significant since it's heavily blamed for the lowered momentum of the Wii? Maybe in a normal sense there's no danger in UGC dominated games, just when they're supposed to anchor your holiday season and you're depending on their success for the whole platform.

But it was optional, thats the beauty of it. Do you noticed that games that have UGC have the most number of levels? Boom Blox stages are what? 300+ in singleplayer alone? Sorry I didnt count but Im  sure its 200+

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

Well it needs to be optional.  Tell ya the truth, in almost every game I've had with this kind of ability, I have barely touched or not even used.  Really when I buy a video game, I'm paying for the work the developer has done.  Really it doesn't feel like a videogame when I'm working to make the game fun... for most level creators, that's what it feels like to me.

thats why its optional and thats why developers added level creators. Because people demands it. Even how sucky or good the levels are. I didnt say that UGC will replaced traditional gaming but it certainly the future and a important part of gaming in the near future. If not, gaming companies will not invest on it. PC gaming was still alive because of mods...

I don't where you are getting in my argument that I don't want it to be optional.  That's what I first mentioned.  I'm just explaining my discontent with the feature to show that if does become a future or standard it won't be something I ever use.

All I hope is that it remains only optional as if it ever becomes the main focus of a game then that is not a good thing for the industry.

Suit yourself but level editors are here even in the early NES days. And even Nintendo want that as a feature in their upcoming titles. We cant change disruption and we cant certainly change "change". Anyone here remembers when the wiimote first unveiled and how the casual boom change gaming forever?

Even whether we accept this or not this is the future we will having. Most traditional games today are dried up with new ideas and content. We're already on the dead end, if not for DOTA RTS could be dead right now. New units, maps and missions will never cut it.

yushire malstrom likes level editors in games. Hes saying he doesn't see consumers buying a level editor standalone with a tacked on game.

95 % of the problem for this topic is misconception, lack of research and mob mentality, the remaing 5% is just bias toward Malstrom.
