The biggest problem with cops that I know is that after a while, they start to think everyone is guilty of something. They tend to forget that we're here to serve the public, not terrorize them. They're cops. Really, we're all just regular people, trying to do good and feed our families.
They/We tend to forget that, to the average person, talking to us is actually pretty traumatic. A cop with no social skills is a terrible thing. And yes. There are bullies/dicks out there. Still, we actually need cops like that. When you do come across truly "bad" badguys (it's rare), that's when you (and by "you", I mean "me") appreciate that tough cop.
Personally, I think people feel better knowing that if someone is kicking in their door, trying to attack them, a big guy with a gun is willing to come over and bust that criminal's ass on their behalf, free of charge.
