Just not as good as the first two games in the series.

@lestatdark

There are spammers in all fighting games, not just SC4. I like punishing spammers. Besides, its really easy to find players whom dont spam in SC4. As long as you dont blame the game, and blame the spammers - im ok with it.

8.7

+Graphics

+Gameplay

+Tower of Lost Souls mode

+make your own

+Darth Vader

-Story mode is short and disappointing

-There's no team battle mode

@Incubi

Of course, there are spammers in all fighting games. Hell, I still hate one of my friends because he was a sub-zero spammer in MK2 xD I don't blame SC4 because of the spammers, the problem is that the online is very broken, and most characters have miliseconds of lag in comparison to their moves in SP counterpart, which made all the timing and precision you gained go to the drain in some fights.
Once you've got the proper hang of it, you would then procede to punish everyone who continuosly spammed Kilik's swipe combo, but since most people didn't even bother to push that step further, most ended up being Kilik spammers themselves.

4.

+ Great character models.
+ Tower of the Lost Souls is fun, but infuriating.

- Kilik still broken
-Apprentice also broken

- Laggy online
- Not very revolutionary, just evolutionary
- Limited movesets
- Character customization sucks
- Install required, otherwise each match takes like 10 seconds to load
- Ivy's boobs aren't big enough

How are they broken? neither are top tier, apprentice is one of the worst character in the game actually. The only reason Kilik is consider cheap is because the online is so laggy that he gets an unfair advantage due to his rang. Thats not his fault thats poor netcoding.

Kiliks range + combos can be spammed constantly (just a quick google brings up plenty of results). The apprentice shouldn't have been added in because 1.) Doesnt fit the theme and 2.) his force attacks can be spammed, and he's a lot faster than a lot of characters, making playing against him a bitch.

I hated this one. SC2 was a solid 8, this is just trash.

Spamming is cheap but its only fustration for casual player that haven't dig deeper into the strats. Kilik is mid tier because while he is a excellent fighter, all his moves are predictable and telegraphed. He is not even in the same league as Tier 1 characters like Sophi & Cassi or Hilde 'the ring out queen'.

And as for Apprentice, yes I agree that he doesn't fit the theme, but he is by no ways broken. He is in fact one of the worst character in the game with virtually no mixup game and those horrible limitation due to force power recharge. The only one who is more of a Joke character than him is Yoda (and to a lesser extend Vader), who is even more pathetically weak.

edit: Btw, I loved SC2 as well, it was my favourite fighting game of the PS2 era and gave me lots of fond memory. Even with my preference for it though, I know that SC4 is a more balanced fighter. SC2's extra character were REALLY broken with Necro leading the pack as an almost godly frame advantage whore and Talim back then could make some fight virtually impossible.

@Incubi: Haha, hilarious vid (@~5:20). The ending was funny, too. All those chances, just to come up short...

Anyway, I'll give this an 8.5. While it's not quite what SC1 or 2 were for me, it's still a solid game from my favorite (traditional) fighting game franchise. It's the first SC with online, which gives it great replay value, and the char customizations are fun to play with.

As for spammers, that's the nature of the game. While I don't lose to or complain about spammers myself (well, not until I learn from it, I'll never forget that shameful loss to a Sophitia spammer), it's actually the fault of the game when people get frustrated. Balanced high-level play is necessary for longetivity, but balancing for the "noobs" / casuals is important, as they usually make up most of the sales. When a handful of easily performed moves become difficult (seemingly impossible) to stop for a newcomer, it's... well, not fun for most people.

Vgchartz score--8.01

wow, that's low :(
