Forums - Nintendo - Reason Epic Mickey is on the wii, because of the audience

It's a tough spot to be in. Most likely they want a kingdom hearts reaction in sales, but KH was more for the hardcore audience. The wii is seen as a casual console and its top selling games are minigames/ 1st party games. Similarly, hardcore games on the wii have not drummed up sales.

It may work, but i think the mickey game would have appealed more to the 360/ps3 audience.

I do not really follow your logic. The game is also part platformer and these types of games actually sell very well on the Wii. Secondly this is a Disney game and therefore it will be advertised and advertised a lot. The major aspect that killed sales for some core games on the Wii was the lack of advertising. As I stated previsously, this will not happen with this game. Thirdly, the Wii already has an established platformer audience which makes this game an easy sale.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Not just Disney. Do you know who came up with this game idea?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

i guess this makes sense.

What I don't understand is that Disney is one of the main backers of Bluray. They now release all their movies on Bluray as well as dvd, so there must obviously be a demographic of disney fans on PS3 since their BR movies are quite popular.

It would be a really good match, but I guess they know what they're doing.

I just can't take a game called "Epic Mickey" seriously. Of course Disney would want it on the Wii, that's probably the biggest gaming market for 4-10 yearolds along with the DS.

popular is a though word to use when speaking of the movie market, where the BR is a fraction of what the DVD still is.Besides, when disney makes movies for blue ray you gotta remember, the PS3, is not the only player for that.

On topic, yes is a logic desicion, if a bit generic.Just as wii is generally viewed as a casual console for all ages, with a small mature market, HD twins are viewed as a GTA crowd with a small casual market. At least in the developer eyes.
Just like viva pinata made 300k on the 360, House of the Dead 2 and 3 sold 1 mil. But then again, GTA sold like 8 million on HD consoles. And then again ,Mario Galaxy sold 8 million on the wii.
What market are you going for?the 300k one or the 9 million one? sure neither will hit those numbers. But if Mickey gets the same attention a mid low profile like Deblod did, which is heading towards a million, is much more realistic.

Blu-Ray was to sell their movies, not games, even back when it was thought it would take off like DVD.

so what though?
The OP suggested there was no demographic on ps3 that would like mickey.

what does mickey have to do with wii demographic?

at least the people who own ps3 or 360 are old enough to remember mickey
