Forums - Sales - Xbox division profit nearly doubles, 34 million 360s sold!?

“Entertainment and Devices Division (“EDD”) offerings include the Xbox 360 platform (which includes the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console system, Xbox 360 video games, Xbox Live, and Xbox 360 accessories), the Zune digital music and entertainment platform, PC software games, online games and services, Mediaroom (our Internet protocol television software), the Microsoft Surface computing platform, Windows Mobile and embedded device platforms, and other devices. EDD leads the development efforts for our line of consumer software and hardware products including application software for Apple’s Macintosh computers and Microsoft PC hardware products, and is responsible for all retail sales and marketing for Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.

Just a quick question about next quarter.

I know that Mac Office sales are always hidded in the EDD division.

Does the highlighted section above mean that all Windows 7 retail sales will be included in the EDD numbers for next quarter?  If so, the numbers should be huge.

^^^ The upfront cost to break into a market like this is captial intensive, so M$ made some investments, and they are paying off now, and will into the future. In Business...you want to be heading in the direction that M$ is heading, unlike some others...

Folks want to hate on MS's success. Just think about all of it for a minute. MS wants to get into video games - takes a plunge and gets thumped by the reigning champ. Goes back to the drawing board and figures out a way to create a device and delivery system to dethrone - or seriously slow down last gen's victor. Even with the RROD, they have accomplished that task. Could Sony bounce back and eventually beat MS? Of course - but to be firmly in second place, the top HD console with a 7M lead AND making profit is noteworthy.

Sony fans won't admit or even acknowledge the 360's success, but others will.

I agree they've been successful, money/sales wise. But I don't agree that it makes them a better company.

I love this better company argument. Like MS is a big cold empire and Sony is not. Give me a break. They both exhibit the behaviour of large corporations.

SONY does NOT CARE about YOU. MS does NOT CARE about YOU. Neither one is any better than the other. They both only see you as a $ sign, although for the most part the sony customers look like this: -$

I wouldn't think so. The EDD division pays that money back to the Windows division. They also pay out for the advertising which will be accompanying the launch of that product. It all depends on how they fiddle with the numbers and they never tell you exactly how the fiddling works.

Tease.

Have some people got half brains? MS only release sold-to-retailers figures and they were flaming VGC for being wrong?

Seriously, The Source didnt even need to reply (and royally own them) because of the absurdity of their comments.

wow... everyones getting upset over nothing. vgc estimates are just that ESTIMATES (estimates that i greatly enjoy and have been enjoying for nearly 3 years now so dont start swinging bans left and right but still estimates nonetheless) but its a service that ioi is providing for FREE who cares if its off by a couple consoles or not in the end hes usually right on with his estimates and makes the correct adjustments when needed so everyone attacking vgc numbers are way off base.

also i agree ms means shipped to retailers but i also agree ms would have a better idea of how many of THEIR product has been sold by those retailers than ANY of the tracker services since they have to continue to resupply the stores. yes that would still be an estimate on their part but probably a closer one than for anyone who has to estimate how many consoles ms are selling to retailers when ms has exact numbers on that.

From what I have they have the expenses to support the retail sales of Office and Windows in the EDD division. The actual revenue and profit goes to other divisions.  Retail sales of Office and Windows is really just a very small piece of Office and Windows sales.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

So if retails sales of Office and Windows were to REALLY take off...EDD results would get worst?

get back under you're bridge troll. VGC is right, MS is wrong.

Thats a big statement. Bare this in mind. M$ have to post EXACT figures to there shareholders or find themselves in breach of the LAW. So more than likely M$ will be exact by 1-200 consoles out. M$ will have some very intelectual degree laden analysts and finance people. VGC is very very good, but can never be an exact science. After all VGC doesn't account for the entire world as well. So more than likely M$ are right on their figures.
