I haven't heard of any modern authors writing "realistic" stories for kids that include murder, dismemberment, mutilation, child stealing, child death, or anything other then flowers and happy and general unrealistic joyful bullshit. LOOK AT THE ENDING OF DISNEY"S LITTLE MERMAID! HOW COULD THEY?!

Yes, and modern literature is so effe up that the Graveyard Book basically automatically won the John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature. Today's children are wussies I've decided.

I agree.  Japanese games do have better stories to me.  Japanese people put more heart and soul into they work.  Look at Japanese anime like Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, and others.  They have good story lines and great fighting scenes also.  I hate American cartoons. 

Well define contemporary.... It's not like I've been reading Andersen or Grimm, haven't touched them in ten years or so. The last children's book I read was Harry Potter I guess and Rowling added a sprinkle of realism with heroes actually dying and it totally blew up, in a good way I mean. Imagine that....
