CD to MP3 syndrome..

Remember when people said MP3's would never over take CD's.

I remember my friends and people saying they need to have the CD case and the lyrics..

I also remember CD's being $11.99 when they first came out, but then they went to $19.99, and would only have one or two songs worth listening to, and then started to not have lyrics in the case.

Now look at MP3's. When you download an MP3, you get the box art and you can upload lyrics to your MP3 player as well.

I haven't step foot in a Music store in years, heck I never even walk down the music isle in Wal*Mart..

I never thought I would stop buying DvD's, but I was looking at my DvD/Blu-ray collection and noticing the last movie I got was Batman on Blu-ray for X-Mas, that has never happened, I was always buying movies the day they came out every other week I would have a new movie.

that is because we download music for free, if Im going to pay for music I prefer having a CD.

The same for movies, I just download them and watch them then erase them, if I wanted to buy a movie, an HD movie, I would want phisical media.

yup having a digital copy of music is not viewed as something that holds great value after market also because iTUNES and other digital download services lowered the price to less than a $1.00 a song, the same would happen to movies. thus do you think Hollywood is in that much of a hurry to devalue their movies they spent Million's on?

Packaging, Shipping, making the dvd, and putting the information on the dvd costs a fair amount of money.  So if a large movie studio can make $3 or $4 profit from a DD they will be making a decent profit.  So I don't see why they wouldn't want to jump on board.

I don't see them distributing movies for under $3.99 at first.  And if you use tv episodes as an example, maybe they let you have a single episode for $1.  They could easily make more money on a tv series through DD than they would selling you the physical media for $49 or less per season.

If you are not going to have the disc and the neat stuff that comes with it then why pay to download it when you can do it for free.

I predict that DD will gut TV DVD/Blu-ray sales within a couple years. I'm not saying there won't be collectors, but for the majority of people, the instant access to content is more than enough. Why buy a season of some show, when you can watch any episode at any time for less money?

Even Sony is building in this capability into their TV sets. It won't be long before most TV sets will have built in internet. When this happens, DD will accelerate by leaps and bounds.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

There are obviously other ways to support a free service. Its called advertising. You can make your money however you like. Look at Hulu for instance, they are obviously making the studios money or they wouldn't allow it.

Some people just don't get it.

How can one be enamored with the idea that digital downloads are "coming to get" blu-ray?

Don't you realize that VOD has been available for 15 years? That anyone who's bought a computer since the 90's has had access to downloading movies?

Digital downloads and VOD aren't "coming" to get anything. They were already here when bluray was first conceived! So why are people acting like MS is starting a revolution just because they put a movie button on the XBL dashboard? And if MS knew digital downloads were the future then why were they selling $150 HD-DVD add-ons for the 360? Oh that's right it was just a ruse. MS knew HD-DVD would fail all along right?

Yeah right.

It's time for people to get over this. Digital downloads and streams have their place for watching low budget TV shows etc. But if you want to watch a million dollar budget movie on your sexy new TV with uncompressed audio, pristine video quality and all the trimmings there is no better solution then bluray. And that's the way it's going to stay for another 10 years plus.

Bluray is the option for people when they want the highest quality you want to wait untill somthing else comes along fine, see you in 2019.

That's just it. Not everyone cares that much about having the highest quality. Convenience and availability are important factors to consumers as well.

There are thousands of shows you can watch online that you might never find in a video store. The gap is only going to increase over time.

I haven't heard anyone arguing that MS is a leader in DD. Apple, Hulu, Amazon, Comcast, Nerflix and others are more leaders than MS. In addition, many TV manufacturers are building it into their TVs including Sony.

Again, i'm all for DD, but done right and not mandatory...

Some things about Hulu that they have to work on if they want to push DD forward:

1. It only works in the USA (US folks, once again, the USA is not the phreaking world)
2. It's based on FLV (like the majority of distributors since Youtube) with a resolution of 360 and 460, it doesn't get to 720p, i guess they'll upgrade that on the way
3. For being only in the US, It doesn't have CBS, a major channel there (it also misses others, but CBS is the biggest of the ones missing)

that is just It they are but..the collector's are the Majority..not the minority

the majority of Digital download's are service based so add that cost to the cost of your internet once again the Majority do not see the increase is worth it. yes you have places like Hulu but the point is many still do not use their computer as a TV function, mainly because many still do not understand what PC's are fully capable of. Mainly because they do not have the time to do so.

why do people buy Movie's?

so they can watch them over and over again, they collect them.that's the big negative of Digital Download's

IF you want to be blunt about it , Digital downloads devalue content.

something of which many consumer's don't like, It's already happened to Music, many people would download free music over paying even $1.00 a song, and that's hurt the bottom line of the music industry. do you think the Industry is that gung ho about doing that to the Movie industry also?
