Hey i can watch tv series on DD that wont even be shown here for months, how will physical media be better for me there?

yes you can, but how does that translate to the Majority of people?

Like i said many people do not even use their Computer for TV function's, to many people Digital Download's

are too, complicated with physical format's just pop the disc in and it work's.

people have been used to that way of watching movies.

Just pop the VHS tape in and it work's, but ask how many people had trouble setting the clock on that VHS. I mean it was a running joke

people had VHS's they played movies on but flashing time clock's. for pete's sake's.

still today you would be suprised how many people still do not even have Email account's let alone know how to work a DVR.

many people just do not have the time to learn those thing's, and need some people like us to help , or do it for them.

until more time passes, Digital Download's taking over physical media is a PIPE DREAM.

IF IT DOES, IT WOULD NOT BE FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

It isn't nearly as hard as you are portraying it. If you can browse the internet, you can get movies. I could teach a 3 year old how to do it. It might even be easier than using a dvd remote.

The rental market already relies heavily on the internet, namely NetFlix. That's how it translates into the majority of people. If they are used to the NetFlix model, then DD is the next logical evolution.

NetFlix is a company that is dedicated to the distribution of content. They have the choice of focusing on blu-ray or DD. NetFlix is so excited about blu-ray, they forget to mention it in their latest commercial. The fact is NetFlix is putting their bets on DD, not Blu-ray. They can see the writing on the wall.

I tell you Im not from the US and I havent heard of NetFlix before they mentioed in these forums. People here rent movies in blockbuster or a similar thing called bazooka which works in a similar way.

yup, many people still refuse to use their PC for TV function, and the netflix is service based you have to pay for it many people do not like to add more money to a service they may not use all the time. the added cost of less than $10.00 a month may not be much to some people but to people with fixed income's . it is.

the older demographic is mainly the one's who see a  problem with digital download's, the majority of them are slow to adopt new technology

thus many time's technology like digital downloads get's left unused by many people who would just rather use their top set box for movies instead of the PC , IF they have a PC at all. Even than many do not know more than just Email, word processing, some web browser ability

like i said it's the flashing time and date on the VHS syndrome.

No one in their right mind thinks that "collectors" are the majority. For every "collector" there are probably 50-100 people that don't collect and only buy a dvd/blu-ray on occasion. DD is not a "microsoft" thing so I don't know where people come up with the defending microsoft part of it. Yes Microsoft has a lot to do with the codecs and such but thats it.

Some of these people above speak like their point of view is the only "true" point of view and they aren't even factually correct.

umm sparkey..if you buy movies you are collecting them...

you do not think collector's are the majority?

if so even with the drop. dvd market is still the largest, so why do people buy movies in the first place, too collect them.

that is a collector. pure an simple if it was not the case The DVD market would not have the largest home movie market share.

A collector is someone with hundreds of movies and or does the collecting as a hobby. Not just someone who picks up a few movies here and there. Quit trying to twist words around your only looking foolish.

A side note to go on this - more and more "not so legal" websites are popping up with tons of movies for free streaming. It's even starting to make Netflix and the type obsolete. On Demand, for free, no need to DL an entire movie file and whatnot. Sure, it might not be the best quality, but in a time of "beggars can't be choosers" free is worth a little sacrifice of quality.

waste of memory, waste of bandwidth.

no..that just mean's the person does not have the larger collection!

define collector:

here i will help you

col·lec·tion

1)The act or process of collecting.

2)A group of objects or works to be seen, studied, or kept together.

3)A line of products produced for one season, as those developed by a designer

4)An accumulation; a deposit

5)A collecting of money, as in church.

6)The sum so collected.

that person is still a collector.

The context I took your post for is blatantly not how your trying to twist it here.  Yes you can be considered a collector with just one DVD or Blu-Ray movie.  But the context (atleast how I took it) was for people with many many or hundreds of dvds/blu-rays.  I don't even know why I am defending this jeez.

What was your point again?

Not to mention that DVD too took ages to become affordable and mainstram, <100€ PC burners and <150€ living room players (not even recorders, the only affordable replacement for old VCR's initially had a DVD player, but VHS for recording) started appering in 2004. With cheap drives, also cheaper DVD editions increased, making them affordable for whoever didn't want only the latest movies.

yea and even then many people Still used VHS until IT WAS stopped being produced

On DEC 31, 2008 , the last major United States supplier of pre-recorded VHS tapes, Distribution Video Audio Inc. of Palm Harbor, Florida, shipped its final truckload.

VHS was around in the 70's

Then VCD started in the early 90's

than DVD took over but even Now DVD has the largest market share of home movie market

Blu-Ray will gain that share because all Blu-Ray player's still play DVD's!

it's not going away, not for a long time. just Like DVD will not due to many consumer's still love DVD.
